This method does not work on android versions up to version 13 for some reason. Tried it on versions 4, 5, 7. It doesn't work on any of them.

That API is obsolete, you should use the newer BeginSignInRequest instead. The older API lacks a lot of features.

Hey, I'm using a fragment instead of a second activity. But I'm running into an issue where when I press the google button, it doesn't work and the toast from the catch is displayed. the fact that a method is deprecated does not mean that it stops working, you can check android developers to see how sould be done now firebase.google.com/docs/auth/android/google-signin#java
