An explanation of alveolar vs. interstitial opacities, including cardiogenic and non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema, and the 3 types of interstitial patterns (reticular, nodular, and reticulonodular). Examples provided of air bronchograms, peribroncial cuffing, Kerley A and B lines, and cephalization. Etiologies of low lung volumes and hyperinflation are also discussed.
Video includes the following image (among others):
Cephalization, downloaded from Radiopaedia.org, originally posted by Charlie Chia-Tsong Hsu.

Errata: @14:10, meant to say "nodules under 2mm" not "nodules under 2cm", though it's probably best not to overrely on highly precise cutoffs.

I am starting work in hospital as an ER/ICU GP. I asked my senior for resources for ABGs and ventilators and he just said "Strong Medicine". At first I was sceptical but dear Lord your Sir are a medical faculty on your own. Such depth and nuances that is rarely touched upon by most educators. A remarkable delivery of remarkable material. I am forever grateful and inspired by you. And I hope you smile every time you see our positive comments and heartfelt gratitude.

At the end of the lecture you stated that air bronchograms were due to non-cardiogenic edema. My notes from radiology lectures have the three stages of cardiogenic pulmonary signs on CXR, and differentiate them based on PCWP.Stage 1 = 13-18Stage 2 = 18-25Stage 3 = > 25 We are supposed to be able to predict the degree of heart failure from radiograph findings (e.g. Stage 1 with broadened vascular pedicle and cardiomegaly). The notes I have say to expect air bronchograms after late stage 2. Obviously I'm asking Bc your summary was somewhat in contrast with lecture, and the radiologist didn't go into cardiogenic vs non- when talking about this....So, do these stages (when compared with CXR) have any predictive value when combined with other findings, such as kerly lines, etc, or is this something I should completely purge from memory after exams? To be more clear, I'm asking if it's truly possible to predict a PCWP from CXR findings?
@qiqisongs
@qiqisongs 6 жыл бұрын
He said that air bronchogram occurs more commonly in noncardiogenic pulmonary oedema, not that it cannot be caused by cardiogenic pulmonary oedema.

@StrongMed
@StrongMed 10 жыл бұрын
LURTS is not a common, standardized medical acronym with which I'm familiar. LURT is rarely used to mean "living unrelated transplant" (i.e. a friend donated you a kidney), but unless that clearly applies to you, the acronym may be something idiosyncratic used just by your doctor's office.
