Retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things. My parents both spent same number of years in the civil service, but my mom was investing through a wealth manager, and my dad through the 401k.

This is true. I'm in my mid 50's now. My wife and I were following this same trajectory. Last two years, I pulled out my money and invested with her wealth manager. Not catching up with her profits over the years, but at least I earn more. I'm making money even before retiring, and my retirement fund has grown way more than it would have with just the 401(k). Haha.

It's unfortunate most people don't have such information. I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of information can be a big hurdle. I've been making more than $30k passively by just investing through a brokerage adviser, and I don't have to do much work. Doesn't matter if the economy is misbehaving; great wealth managers will always make returns.

I think this is something I should do, but I've been stalling for a long time now. I don't really know which firm to work with

The decision on when to pick an Adviser is a very personal one. I take guidance from ‘Carol Vivian Constable‘ to meet my growth goals and avoid mistakes, she's well-qualified and her page can be easily found on the net.

Most Americans find it hard to retire comfortably amid economy downtrend. Some have close to nothing going into retirement, my question is, will you pay off mortgage as a near-retiree, or spread money for cashflow, to afford lifestyle after retirement?

as most investing-related questions, the answer is, it depends.. my best suggestion is to consider advisory management

Agreed, the role of advisors can only be overlooked, but not denied. I remember in early 2020, during covid-outbreak, my portfolio worth around 300k took a slight fall, apparently due to the pandemic crash, at once I consulted an advisor in order to avoid panic-selling. As of today, my account has yielded big fat yields, and leverages on 7-figure, only cos I delegate my excesses right.

I've shuffled through a few advisors in the past, but settled with “Vivian Carol Gioia” her service is exemplary. I'd suggest you research her further on your browser, sure you'll find her basic info.

Each time I hear people talk about pensions, I'm more and more thankful for mine and my wife's. I'm a 27 year retired military member, and she will retire with a federal pension. Each of those retirements grow with inflation. If we add even 75% of what we expect to get in SS, we will retire with an annual income of $150k in today's dollars. That's before we touch our investments, if we ever do. Couple all that with a 2.25% loan with a balance of $347k and a value of $750k, we're looking good for a stress free retirement. Annuities = pay someone a fee so an insurance company can give you YOUR money. My atwp-mothwr has one. Why? She worked for John Hancock for 30 years and believes it benefits her.

You are talking about wanting a Pension? I will get 1 but until this yr most Advisors said Take the Lump Sum! I have always intended taking the monthly payment! I just wish I had COLA? With Cash Bucket, Pension and Soc Sec base pay shud I still have such a LG portion of portfolio in Bonds?

I just retired at 57. I've 20% in dividend ETFs (JEPI, SCHD) and 80% in believe it or not in CD ladder. The combo replaces my pre retirement income by more than 100%. No need to take unnecessary risk in de-accumulation years. Will take SS at full retirement age.

Hard to make a CD Ladder now? 5% for less than 1 yr but drops off sharply after that?

401k goes to IRA, which you could convert some into roth IRA(pay taxes)

Roll to an IRA. If it's a traditional IRA you'll pay taxes. If it's a Roth, easy rollover.

As an lnvesting enthusiast, I often wonder how top level investors are able to become millionaires off investing. . I’ve been sitting on over $545K equity from a home sale and I’m not sure where to go from here, is it a good time to buy into stocks or do I wait for another opportunity?
