THANK YOU! I am recently divorced and at the ripe old age of 42, I find myself having to iron my own shirts for the first time in my life. I had no idea what I was doing but after watching this I am now ironing mine and my 2 sons shirts like a pro!
I really appreciate your efforts to show especially men how to do what they call "a simple house chore". Do it and tell me if it's simple. Not just the shirts for you, but for everyone else in the house, so imagine how much work it takes to give everybody a nice shirt to go to work every day. Your wife and children must be proud, grateful and love you so much!!!

True. Only iron the underside -- the side that nobody actually sees. Wrinkles will get ironed out and your collar will not get shiny. If you want a stiff collar, you can spray a little bit of starch on the underside, THEN iron.

i hang to dry too - one thing I recommend is to button the TOP button and let it dry - it seems to prevent having a perma-floppy-collar.. unless thats your style. I like my collar to be crisp, like it came from the dry cleaners

If you start to see little smudges as you iron, most likely it's a burn you're seeing which means you got your iron too hot! Turn it down a notch or more. Don't let the iron sit still on anything! Always keep that iron moving when ironing!

Bill Long - Stop being a douche. This guy has made an instructional video to help a friend and others who need help with a tougher-than-most everyday task, and you're trying to call him on a slight lapse in memory? Get over yourself, and stop spreading your negativity. It has no place in the world. David Sabine - Thank you for a great video. Ignore anyone being a douche.

Ok jst tried tht wid one shirt.. Bt gt a very silly question.. With the sleeves whn u iron it, should the stiches be visible towards the front of the shirt or behind.. I put my hands in and flattened the sleeves to iron bt the armpit and the stiches jst seemed to fold both the ways!!
@DavidSabine10 жыл бұрын
Maybe just pause the video at 3:44 -- the stitches are at the nose of the iron and look closely at the wrist. Hopefully that view is helpful.

The hardest part for me is, I always seem to create a wrinkle when doing the sleeve. I notice you only do one side of the sleeve, then you turn it over and just use a lint brush on the other side. No need to iron both sides of the same sleeve?
@DavidSabine3 жыл бұрын
No need to iron both sides. If you have enough heat and just enough pressure, the iron effects both layers. (Linen and Cotton shirts need significant heat. Other materials - synthetics - do NOT need much heat.)
@broadcasttttable3 жыл бұрын
@@DavidSabine Thanks for the reply. Like I said, the reason I hate ironing, is I'll do a sleeve, it'll look good, I'll turn it over, do the other side, and voila! I've created a wrinkle on the other side where (I thought) I just finished ironing. Oh well, practice, practice, practice...
@DavidSabine3 жыл бұрын
@@broadcasttttable, yes, the trick is to lay the garment flat (all layers) and to NOT iron both sides. Iron one side and let the heat, steam and pressure permeate both layers at once.

When do you recommend using starch? Or do you prefer not to use it
@DavidSabine11 жыл бұрын
Hi Erik, I don't recommend using starch. It's good to make a sharp crease in wool pants or in a heavy weave shirt. Otherwise, it's too rigid for my liking.
