Army here but wow this was a great video! Thankyou! Never ironed my OCP’s before since I don’t have an iron but when I do I am definitely doing it and getting elastic!

My dad taught me this as an airman, but I didn't pay enough attention. Now that I'm going to ALS with a Staff Line Number I'm really glad for this video, thank you!

Great tutorial sir, just got told I'm attending an E5 promo board on Tuesday, currently rushing to try and get all my ducks in a row. Thank you for helping me try to stack the odds in my favor. Your soldiers are lucky to have a leader willing to take the time to go the extra mile like this

Forbidding starch and ironing is nothing new. That was a big deal with BDUs but we all did it anyway when we were in garrison. Every unit will have its quirks. Because we were Infantry, it was sleeves down all year! Anyway, totally agree with you about how slobbish OCPs look in general. I mean, if you're in the field who cares but if you're not, might as well be as squared away as you can be.

Thanks for sharing. I wish we could have kept the BDUs, looks much more presentable with spit shine boots

This video is perfect! Every minute, every second has really good advice and it made me rethink how I was ironing all my life. I’m a new airman going in, and this video is going to be one of my bibles to learn from when I get my uniform. Thank you so much for posting, I sincerely appreciate you taking the time and showing me but everyone the right way and also sharing your tips too. Thank you

I'll work on that. the only real way to do this is with custom sewing or with a reinforcement like cardboard or wire.

Did the tailor add the elastic bands in for your trousers after altering them?
@AirForceKen2 жыл бұрын
Yes I had them done at the same time and it's important to tailor them with a professional who will measure your length of the legs while sitting. Also measure your arms while reaching up and ensure the cut is totally perfect while standing. I recommend your leg length is cut while sitting and arm length while standing and arms down, since most times people are paying attention to you directly are in those occasions.

Per AR 670-1 and the AFI you're not supposed to starch. It makes you stand out under NVGs like a glow in the dark.
@total52232 жыл бұрын
Please see my note from 5 months ago. This is for garrisoned units. These units aren't being hunted on NVGs and actually I don't know anyone who currently is, or foresee anything in the near future that would have us being hunted on NVGs or hiding out where we would be in that scenario...

To bad the afi says only light ironing is authorized.

Do you spray the starch on the inside of the uniform? Do you apply starch when the uniform is still wet after washing or dry?
@AirForceKen2 жыл бұрын
Yes always spray on the inside as shown. There are two ways to iron, if you need to iron quickly you can iron while it's wet. I usually do that. But if you have time and you want a seriously sharp/stiff garment, let it dry. Then you can shower with it in the bathroom to lightly moisten it or you can spray with the iron. I don't recommend ironing it dry without some sort of moisture.

You are now authorized to starch and iron this uniform unless it is the special night signature version.
@zerne10002 жыл бұрын
I am trying to find the regulation where it states that it is now authorized, can you please send me the link? I really want to start searching my uniform
@uss_liberty_incident2 жыл бұрын
There is no special "night signature version" of the OCP or IHWCU, what are you talking about? The US armed forces haven't used a night camo since Desert Storm.

@@uss_liberty_incident hmm that's weird, the two I have here from a 2018 deployment say otherwise

What’s a good brand of OCP uniforms? Is it better to buy at the base or online?
@AirForceKen4 жыл бұрын
I find the ones online have FAR better stitching and as a result way less cables. I can't stand clothing sales. It seems like their products are lazy and have a lot of imperfections as a result. Plus online you can have it delivered fully customized with rank, patches, and if you send the measurements from a tailor, already altered.
@pjbarri4 жыл бұрын
Sounds good! I’ve ordered a few things from uspatriottactical but do you have any recommendations as far as online stores?
@nunyabusiness49044 жыл бұрын
AFI 36-2903 discourages purchasing uniforms from anywhere except clothing sales, note discourages and not forbid for individuals spending their personal money on uniforms, it also specifies only light pressing of uniforms authorized, I’d personally say the creases shows more than light ironing but what matters is what the person you answer to thinks about it. Also note that beginning April 2021 unless you are issued different uniforms based on the specific requirements of your job only the 50/50 cotton-nylon blend will be authorized which is why the AFI discourages purchasing uniforms anywhere that isn’t AAFES operated due to them being unable to guarantee that uniforms will be up to spec. Starch and hot pressing is specifically forbidden per AFI but always do what your rank can handle.

Medium, don't burn it, turn it inside out to go higher. Spray the starch, let it dry then steam iron inside out

Did they get rid of the wash and wear uniforms?
@AirForceKen2 жыл бұрын
Sort of. They are the same but many people, like me, simply couldn't stomach having a terribly wrinkly and disheveled uniform. Plus the cuts are so bad as you can see.

Im retired now but while I was in The Air Force they spent a lot of time and money making a uniform that stop Ironing so Airmen could focus more on their work! Age equipment was even painted grey to match the Uniforms. See these new OCP uniforms is mind boggling! Not being negative just curious!
@AirForceKen2 жыл бұрын
Like I wrote above. Intention and execution are two different things, especially in the government procurement world. Maybe they sought a uniform that could just simply be thrown into a washer and dryer and worn. However, the reality is that the uniforms look absolutely terrible because of the cut that they were designed in. Also it seems as though the manufacturer intended to put in some sort of natural creasing or folds to the uniform which came out absolutely terrible. So a wash and wear uniform looked like people were rolling out of farm stalls in appearing in meetings. I sat and meetings where there were 20 people, where 18 of them had the wash and wear and they absolutely looked terrible. Whereas two of them including me went ahead broke the rules ironed our uniforms and we looked and felt professional. After a while the rules were changed. I predicted the rule change the very first day I looked at these uniforms. So that is reality. There are still people in the military who actually want to look good, not necessarily to separate themselves make other people look bad, but they enjoy symmetry and perfection at its maximal extent.
