I'm not quite sure how buying 6 fittings and the other parts needed and spending all that time is better than just buying the 6 way fitting in the first place. Even if the exact fitting is not available it would be much better to make a manifold out of tees.

The piece you built is not rated for high water pressure. It will fail very quickly. Best bet is to build a manifold using tees. Sure, it may cost more than a six way (because they are hard to find) but it won't fail.

It depends on the area. If you're doing irrigation work in the boonies, or your local Hopeless Despot(Home Depot) doesn't have the part, this might be what the video is aimed at. I still would have replaced the innertube with actual rubber washers, but that's me.

You don't really need a seal either - just cement the fittings into the distribution box when you screw everything together.
@KO1967 Жыл бұрын
or you could just use one 4-way adapter (1 up, 3 in a T formation) and join two 3-way Ts to the left and right of the 4-2ay adapter for a configuration of in coming from the top, out going east, west, south, south, south. Much easer than this contraption

You should not use schedule 20 pipe for pressured water. It is for waste drain and vent. The walls are too thin. The 4 “ pipe and cap are schedule 20.

So, a few points: This is not remarkable. You just made a distribution box. You modified fittings, which is a no-no in nearly all code jurisdictions. The parts cost alone is way more than a six way fitting. The time spent modifying all these parts and putting them together is probably more than what it would have taken to get a six way at the local hardware store. The distribution box is made of substantially thinner material than the pipes, so you just invalidated the pressure rating of the entire system. The only benefit of this is that it will likely distribute more evenly than a six way 5 it is basically just a small low-pressure tank. Interesting but it's definitely not worth the effort.

@upToTheMike Жыл бұрын
No, it doesn't. Once the system is full and pressurized, it's the same. If anything it will decrease the fluid friction to each tap. It still doesn't seem worth it to me. I would use a manifold of tees like mentioned by others.
@jonathanklopf7581 Жыл бұрын
how silly can you get? all that work rather than just use the adapter. your assuming people have a scrap piece of 4" pvc laying around and a couple of 4" caps. i'd be willing to bet the price of those 2 caps would offset the price of the adapter, correct me if i'm wrong, not too mention all the labor.
@Icedel777 Жыл бұрын
If it was the end of the world scenario, I could see this becoming worth doing. Though I would rather buy a figure 5 fitting. A few things your 3 or 4 inch pipe is thin wall so therefore, it wouldn't hold up to pressure water. I also think that you bought sewer pipe for potable water instead of pressure PVC. The next thing is you didn't use primer or the correct glue for potable water. Also, even though you put made washers in that it will not hold for long. You should have used pipe dope and Teflon tape as well as the washers. You don't have to take my word for it. I've just been plumbing for 25 years. 😊

But will it have equal water pressure to all the output ends? This has a trap for standing water at the bottom which isn't ideal, but it does allow for a resevoir and pressure to build so the water more evenly flows down all the outlets.

I would not have sealed the top with the glue because with the water there's gonna form all kinds of mold inside there that's gonna need to be cleaned out eventually. Not sure how much the adapter would cost but it couldn't have been much more than all that extra plastic that you purchased. It is an intriguing idea but again I would not have sealed the top because all that mold that's gonna form inside there it's gonna have to be cleaned out often

For $22 you can buy a 10 pack of 6-way adaptors at Amazon, delivered tomorrow. The cost of doing this whole ting would be a higher price, plus the time it took you to make it (figure an hour at least), plus the rubber gaskets are going to be your big failure point here. If this is all you had to work with then at least you can do it; however, it isn't along term solution for something that will last. This falls under the Mad Max world where you cannot get the proper things at all.
