How to tie your mainline to Leadcore or Solar Tackle Unleaded in a clear and easy to follow video. This is a strong connection that allows all rig components on the leader to pass freely over the knot if the line breaks ensuring good fish safety.

I only just tried this knot with Korda Cable leadcore and 20lb X-line as i watched the video... Without a doubt this is the STRONGEST and NEATEST knot i have ever used to attach leadcore.... You know what they say ....... "never look back" :D Thank you.

Good clear video. I also like to leave the tag end just shorter than the distance back to where the mono enters the lead core and pull it back in using the splicing needle!

You can do. Personally I splice on a quick change clip on a helicopter set up so I can change leads as required or remove them completely when the rods go back in the bag and not knock the rods about.

Wow, I wish I knew the answer to that one! I often use a simple monofilament rig tied with a simple knotless knot. You can find this in one of my other videos in this channel. If you are looking for something more complex for wary fish, I use the combi rig with a slow sinking bait. I hope that helps.

Yes you can as long as the splice in the ESP leader is not so think that the top bead does not come off. The method in the video is just one way of joining onto a leader. It happens to be how Terry Hearn and Nigel Sharp do it. I use Solar Unleaded and splice a loop in one end and join using a loop to loop connection. At the end of the day as long as the top bead can slide over the connection easily then it's fine.

Brilliant! This will save me splicing two loops on the leadcore. Many thanks.

To be honest without being there and trying it don't know. One quite good way to test it is this. Take the hook in your hand/pliers and then give the whole rig a good flick using the lead as force to see how the top bead slides up and off. My set up has some resistance as the bead comes off the bit of silicone sitting on the Unleaded but after that it slides straight off. IMO that's how it should be, no resistance at all as it comes off the leader.

Ok, si that meens that every time i have a fish i have to re do the join? If i use the helicopter rig 99% the fish pulls the line over the jointed part, that means the stop bead will go over that join and won't go back again. So if i catch 20 fish a day i have to spend 10 min after every fish to redo the join. It's a bummer.

Nice vid very informative. Could You tell me whats the best way to attach a leadcore leader with a loop already in to the main line? Is loop to loop strong enough? Thanks for sharing, Graham.
@MylesGascoyne
@MylesGascoyne 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Graham, sorry for the slow response. Yes if their is already a loop, you can use a loop to loop connection. Take a look at my KZbin channel for loop to loop connections because there are some tips that make sure it's strong enough. Make sure though that all beads that need to pass up the mainline for a safe rig can do so.

Think you can use a shrink tube on that knot to hide it
@MylesGascoyne
@MylesGascoyne 5 жыл бұрын
Hi, not really. The advantage of using this knot is to make it slim and streamlined so that beads etc on the leadcore will pass over the connection. This will ensure the rig is safe in case the mainline breaks and you leave the fish with the rig. I hope that makes sense. Do experiment with how you make rigs, just make sure you're components slide EASILY over the knot.

can this be used to tie braided mainline to leadcore?
@MylesGascoyne
@MylesGascoyne 9 жыл бұрын
+Richard Cope Hi Richard, Yes you could but you will need to increase the number of wraps made in the braided mainline considerably. The number of turns will vary between braids depending on their thickness and weave. Because of the huge variety of braids out there I can't really give you a number but start by doubling what you would do in mono.

Why not just use loop to loop or is this better
@MylesGascoyne
@MylesGascoyne 5 жыл бұрын
Roy Close you can use a loop to loop when you don’t have beads that need to slide Omer the connection to ensure the rig is safe. Remember that if your mainline snaps when hooked up the fish needs to rid itself of the lead and leader. So if you’re using a helicopter/Chis rig you’ll need to use this needle knot. If you’re using a running inline lead for example that has a big hole through it, you probably don’t. I hope that makes sense.

There's a good Lead core depth calculator for trolling on Google Play

+M Marks (Ddancers) Thanks. It's interesting how we all use leadcore differently. For carp fishing we only use short lengths up to 6ft or so.
@mmarks9723
@mmarks9723 8 жыл бұрын
Wow that's interesting - my colors out vary on speed and the depth of the fish. usually anywhere form 3 to 7 colors out. Again speed of trolling causes me to vary amount. When wind is blowing for control I have to go faster too. Always believed I new my depth using lead core but found out I was off after testing and applied this in the App. Still need to fine tune it, but for Sufix Performance LC it's pretty accurate.

Why would anybody use this knot? Seriously! The Willis knot is way easier and better.. I can do an unbreakable Willis knot in less than 30 seconds...
@MylesGascoyne
@MylesGascoyne 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter. I understand that the Willis knot is a quick method of connecting to leadcore. The reason why someone would use this knot is quite specific to UK carp fishing. It is use to ensure a smooth transition from the leadcore to mainline so that specific rig components can pass over the connection with ease. If that is not necessary then of course another knot such as the Willis or a splice might be a more appropriate choice. I hope that answers your questions.
