I remember as a kid, my father taught me to be quite careful not to breathe the dust from certain types of wood I was cutting. This was due to the type of various chemical treatments the material may have been through. I wonder nowadays, seeing that folks are regularly cutting all kinds of new chemistry with no respiratory protection... 😮

I made a comment on a deck that was using composite decking. And my question was why weren't the joises under those decking boards taped or using metal to cover them for extra protection against rot. I was told it didn't need to be. And then someone quoted a Michigan reg. That said a house could be built on top of it and treated boards didn't need to be covered yes they are correct. Because those boards would be under the house and not out in the weather. I see you've taped yours. Great job.

This is the funnest/best and only piece to do because as you see they just ran every thing long and ugly and this is the one piece you scribe and cut perfect to make the ugly all of a sudden look beautiful 😂😂 It's risky when you don't have a track saw and you're sitting there trying to clamp a level to keep your straight line 😪

only thing about getting them perfect is time will cause them to pull apart or warp on the wood frame so instead of cutting neatly i just started staggering my boards then cut the excess off the end, if it does warp like this i can respace them

also good to EDGE BEVEL the 45deg cuts for better barefoot comfort... theres a leatherworking tool used for bevelling belt edges which is way easier than filing the whole thing

@@Calvingeneering being a hollow, extruded plastic profile, the top expands at a different rate when exposed to the sun when compared to the bottom, which causes it to bulge across it's width and warp along its length. We have a local boardwalk where the boards are perpendicular to the path of travel and let's just say I'm glad my daughter's pram has suspension!

We did a massive deck made out of trex at a doctor's house. She believed it was cheaper if we routed it all ourselves. Trex sells the router bit. What she saved in material she spent on labor lol. We had over 20 contractor bags filled with the shavings. We ended up spreading it on the vapor barrier underneath the porch. Work nicely cuz when you look down through the cracks it covered the moisture barrier with the same color as the deck. I called it forever mulch lol.

@@oscarsantos2608 The plastic decking with time gets degraded by UV light too. Locally they have 2x6 Marine grade decking for pier decks over salt water with a 0.8 grade of treatment. Plus have some actual rough finished size 2x12 inch beams with a 2.4 rating. That stuff is real heavy and when you cut it it swells like mad. I actually use both 5/4x6 plastic decking treated 2x6 decking
