When I heard you could eyedropper a Kaweco Sport, I just knew I had to try it! And, I have to say, I have never looked back since my very first one.
It took me awhile to move all my acrylic Kaweco Sports from converter to eyedropper, but thankfully because their converters are so tiny it didn’t take too long. This video is actually a refill and since it’s a good idea to clean out the ink and refresh the silicon grease in between refills, I thought I'd record this video while I was at it.
Some tips - do not do this in a metal or aluminium Kaweco Sport! And I do not know if it will stain resin, but technically, it shouldn’t? Also, don’t forget to use the freshly-filled pen on some spare paper, just in case it burps all over what you’re writing! It will eventually stop burping, so don’t freak out too much - just continue scribbling until it does.
I hope you enjoyed the video. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments below. Do give me a thumbs up and subscribe to my KZbin channel. Thanks for watching!

In converted eyedroppers I found out if you put a bottomless or cut cartridge in the feed, the pen burp a lot less. It is because it will restrict the ink flow.

That’s an interesting tip! Thanks! Thankfully my eyedropper Kawecos have decided to stop burping for now so hopefully they’ll stay that way. It also seems to happen after a fresh refill but not so much while in use.

Thanks for the tutorial! I tried to a similar thing with a noodler's ahab and the pen just kept burping whenever I tried to write with it. Turns out it was because of my hand's heat tempering with the air pressure within the barrel. Now I got a transparent kaweco sport and worry that the same thing will happen 😅

Most welcome! Wow! That is the first time I have heart about hand heat affecting the air pressure in the barrel. I wonder if the ahab material is more conductive 🤔 Do let me know how it goes with the kaweco - I hope it doesn’t have the same effect!

@@nadiahkimie It went greatly! Not leaking or burping, perhaps because I had a fine nib and kawecos tend to be a bit on the dryer side. But had a bit of an ink build up in the plastic shell outside the feeder.

@@berkayozar5970 That's great! Ah, the ink build up could mean you need to put a little more silicon gel. I've had that happen to me with my Franklin Cristoph pen. I find it's better to be generous with the silicon gel 😄

would it be possible to add an O-ring to it as well like with the the platinum preppy eyedrop conversion. I don't know if just adding grease to it would be enough to seal it correctly. I don't want the pen to leak while it's in my pocket.

I think it should be possible and will help better with minimising potential leaks. So far I’ve found that if leaks happen it’s usually because the feed/body gets unscrewed from each other, although this has only happened once to me so far. I think an o ring will help add a little grip so that doesn’t happen.

I have several Kaweco Sport pens. I'm a little uneasy about doing this. Have you ever had an ink spillage?
@nadiahkimie
@nadiahkimie Жыл бұрын
Honestly, no! because the threads of the feed part is so far in, I’ve not experienced any spillage during my regular use. However, if taking them on flights it’s a bit touch and go, especially if they’re checked in. They never used to spill on flights, but they seem to more nowadays (not just the Kaweco’s but other pens too).

You don't need to use an silicone O-ring?
@nadiahkimie

Not at all! I think it’s because the screw part of the Kaweco Sport feed is quite long so ink doesn’t tend to leak unless the barrel gets overfilled. 2-2.5ml seems to be the safe zone.

Hi! Did you encounter leaks?
@nadiahkimie

Hi! Only once so far, and that was because I didn’t screw the pen body back on properly 😅 However, it does tend to leak in flights though but via the nib and not the body itself, but that has been happening to a lot of my fountain pens lately.
