funny story: me and my friends started a modded server recently that basically makes you play in a primitive, stone age style (progressing through different ages like copper, bronze, iron, etc). we happened to settle at a lake between some mountains that UNCANNILY looks like the location of a server we did a year ago (even down to the lake shape). we now plan to revive the old server in order to create some “archeological sites” of our current modded server, reviving the old server in the process :D

If you're wanting to make a friends smp, I would suggest adding friends, then tell your friends to add their friends. Say you have 5 friends, they each invite 3. It will build up & it will allow people to communicate with strangers and build teams, this would make the server very active.

I think the reality is that different people enjoy different things. I like building, so I don’t get bored as quickly as someone who might prefer the gearing up part of Minecraft. That said, I think a lot of people quit after a week or two because the game doesn’t feel challenging enough. Good tips though, and I hope we can play again soon!

I have a friend who runs a modded smp for us, and we've found out a lot of these tips over time, especially living together and playing the game slower (not speedrunning endgame gear). With mods it's especially important to slow down because there is so much content that is unexplored specifically for the early game, as well as it being completely overwhelming for someone unfamiliar with mods to try to catch up. We also usually check seeds by just loading up worlds until we find one with a cool spawn since chunkbase won't work for modded worlds, and the world map shows us interesting things in the area. Definitely gonna tell some friends about the iron armour tip though. One of us in particular gets VERY frustrated when he dies to something random that also happens to delete all his stuff (has happened twice and he quit both times because of it)

A tip if you download mods: pick multiple mods that offer progression. This will allow different people to "hone in" on different mods, which just been proven very fun. You could showcase different things you've achieved and stuff

Great video! I used to have a school server running with maybe 10 or so active players, and it lasted a few months somehow. There was a massive spawn area where we built shops, community farms and other random builds (there was a creeper farm next to someone's house next to a giant half-finished Costco lol) and it was pretty impressive. Then this kid blew up a KFC and X-rayd so we banned him, but somehow the admin messed it up and he was still able to join. He then built a lag machine and the server became unplayable. Even if we'd fixed it, it was too late because everyone had already lost motivation... Make backups. That's something we should have taken more seriously, and maybe that server would still be alive.

I actually got a idea for an even if i don't know how to make it. It would be a server when every week-end the server reset with a new twist, BUT before the restart you get to keep a build, a piece of equipement, a pet, that would be placed in a special dimension that you can access whenever you want EXEPT for the 2 first day of the server. Kinda like a roguelite. Feel free to use my concept.

I'm running an SMP currently with 5 members (including me) and so far we've been working on making a town. Minecraft Version 21.4 PaperMC Plugins: Timber, NoChatReports, GrimAC, LuckPerms + LPC (Chat Ranks) I've been the admin, and to tell the truth I generally TP players when requested, I set difficulty, I set gamerules, and I feel like maybe you're right. If I convince my people to wear lower tier armor more often, they would feel that KeepInventory is unnecessary. Thanks for this video and I intend to make improvements to my server.

I turned on keep inventory to prevent burn out of losing gear, there’s multiple plots for one chunk bases at spawn for their starter base, then they make their other base but it has to be 50-100 blocks from another person. My favorite SMP (private) i ever played with my friends included datapacks from everyone so it was really cool. Eventually tho, some kid started hacking, people kept on messing around with each others' bases, someone ragequit, and people brought in politics. I deleted the server because everyone was too toxic.

To be fair, there are pvp centered smps, and like casual player smps. Imo, I like fighting and gearing up, some people would rather enjoy building or just having fun doing random stuff across the world. I don't think the iron armor thing and cheating come up more in pvp smps. But great video!

one more really good thing is to remove the enchantment "mending" entirely. mending just strips the enjoyment of getting new gears and experimenting with new gears. I really hate that enchantment.

3:06 I kinda disagree with this, I owned a SMP with around 10 people, me and one other player had admin privileges. With luck perms we set it so we can only ban/kick people, it would also announce to us if someone was flying or xraying, this is a way I kept it alive, I could control everything and see the cheaters. On top of that we also had an anti grieving plugin which we needed some permission for incase of some people having a fallen out and grieving each other.

watching this I know understand why all my friends quit the servers I join, like 3 days after I join. Its because its not that I "sweat" its just that I have a very technical/logical way of thinking and I decide what is the most effective way to get good gear quickly, so by day two I'm usually set up with full villagers, maxed gear, a auto raid farm, a auto iron farm, a auto tree farm, etc etc

Sweating is fine as long as everyone is doing it. My friend group have been playing Minecraft for like 10 years and the end is more like mid game to use. The thing that keeps us together is collaborating on big projects and stuff like that.
