Briar is the king of secure messaging and privacy even offline during war time.
Briar is open source and being developed by a very small number of people so if you think you can help, be sure to [check out the source code](code.briarproject.org/briar/b...) and join the [development mailing list](lists.sourceforge.net/lists/l.... They will welcome [donations on Liberapay](liberapay.com/Briar/donate) as well.

I was going to install Briar tonight later and happened to see your video. That's really amazing, never knew what you showed could be done at all. I'm going to work on learning to use Briar, and I'll re-watch this tutorial (probably in slow-mo, ha ha) so I can see better what you do at each step. It'll take me a while, I'm sure. But thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us here!

Simple, easy, important feature highlights to get ANYONE started. THANK you so MUCH. I have had this app for about 6 months now and no idea that it was this easy to share, independently dynamic and how to share or introduce it to others this was ALL thats needed the BRIAR team is on the right track but they need basic tutorials like this where regularly people are. I have so much ideas on how to spread this and how to get average people using it by using old hardware as Ultra Secure Mini exchanges and broadcasting units (points) by simple step-by-step automated installation security exchange base station vetting process implemented via Bluetooth, Wifi, or USB written ONLY by the authors of briar themselves. it would be interesting if ( 1 or 2 ) old routers, or a basic cheap standardized raspberries pi could be used ( preferably with own powersource which is rechargeable but can also operate from constant power. The possibilities are limitless in my view keeping in mind that this can be made easy and simple by software guiding person step by step as you have done here. The problem with software like BRIAR is that the average person will not use it unless its useful to them in a simple step by step way like done here. And I know this is not exactly meant for the average but its what they / we need. Having ones own truly private blog and forums to share with only people you want without being monetize by big crop is a dream and BRIAR has done it. Thank you again.

Bluetooth or WiFi or TOR or Feathernet... many range extension options.

What's the furthest distance between the two before it stops working?

So the last two devices to connect were not online and were only able to communicate via Bluetooth, correct? If this is the case, how close do you need to be to another device to connect via Bluetooth? The answer is 33 feet.... I think they can safely whisper to each other😉

I'm pretty sure Briar also uses other phones that have it installed as a relay system. If that's the case then you can be much much farther away than 33 feet. The more people that have it the farther it's potential range.

Nice tutorial. I wonder, how can I communicate with someone far from me with no internet?

Yeah, for really long distances it supports the onion routing through the internet... Or the feathernet, which is where you put the messages on a flash drive, tie it to the foot of a bird, and send the bird flying to the person who needs the messages at which point they'll be able to decrypt the messages if they have a paired relationship with you in Briar. At least that's how I assume it would work. I don't have any carrier pigeons.

Smoke signals, unless you are within the 33feet Bluetooth range, well, then I guess you could whisper to them and no one would hear you.

Can you do this long distance?

If the Bluetooth mesh is big enough! Ha! But it also works with Wifi nodes, and the regular internet encrypted inside the onion router. And content can also be transported via carrier pigeons in Briar.
