They’re genuinely super easy to care for. Pretty active and big eaters. They also enjoy the tank (even though they try to escape) they genuinely like it in there. Unlike a lot of fish that just deserve to be in nature, crawfish are pretty chill with it kind of like beta fish. They just be chilling

We started keeping Crays a couple of months ago, and your video was my main inspiration. PROBLEM: both crays (a self-cloner & a Clarkii) dropped eggs at the same time, and we are now overrun with littles. What can I do with all the babies? I started out with the 5.5g and had to add a 20g, but am still changing filters 1x a week to manage the bioload. I don't want 150 crayfish!!
@ralfnuggs1657 жыл бұрын
Julie Risko Neely you can ship them to me! I run a crawfish farm. I would recommend just fishing the little ones out. They will eventually hatch from the eggs on the tail and craw all over the mother, until eventually being bold enough to go out on their own. At this point get a net and fish them out, you can probably donate them back to a fish store or give them to somebody who has cichlids to eat them. As far as water changes go, yeah, it can become a big pain in the butt. I really recommend not over feeding. I'd rather see my fish starve to death than knowing the reason they died is because I over fed them, not even to mention how filthy the extra food makes the tank. Crawfish don't need much food at all, in fact from my experience they do best going through a 2 day fasting period between medium to large sized feedings. Don't be overwhelmed, it's just little baby crawfish!
@phyliciajoykloes8 жыл бұрын
Awesome video! Seriously, I wish I saw this sooner. Our last crawfish died about a month ago, and we got rid of our baby crawfish since they started eating each other. It was so sad; the bigger guys literally started munching on the tinier ones. It was hard taking care of them. At some point we even had three tanks in our room, so we ended up deciding to throw them in the lake behind our house. They have a lot more room there, so we hoped for a better future . (I am not certain if they are still there, but I really hope they are! We do have some bigger fish in there, and many different birds and some alligators swim by every so often.) The next time we own crawfish, though, I'll add some egg shells and more rocks for hiding spots! I know that they catch live minnows because we witnessed it!
@ralfnuggs1658 жыл бұрын
Well I hate to break it to you but unless they spawned they probably didn't make it because birds and alligators are for sure going to eat crawfish lol :p but I'm really glad you liked the video. I saw your tank in a few of your more recent videos it looks awesome.

I really want to have an all natural tank at some point, and I'll use your video to set it up well! :-) I love looking at our tank, though. Sometimes, I prefer staring at the fish instead of TV. I was thinking of doing a crawfish setup but I’m not sure if I’ll need any ph balances chemicals or any type stress coat do I have to buy any of that stuff for them if I do what do u use
@ralfnuggs1653 жыл бұрын
The best water is slightly hard and has LOTS of air... surface agitation and an air stone work best in my experience if you want a tank where you can just leave it and not worry about it much. Ph doesn’t matter too much but slightly hard is best
@ralfnuggs1653 жыл бұрын
So no as long as your tank is cycled for as long as you’re comfortable with. Maybe using a filter already with some beneficial bacteria and you can just get cracking. Crawfish are good for a setup you don’t want to mess around with ever. And they turn heads for some reason

@aeroinuinu33492 жыл бұрын
I keep seeing different results for how big of a tank I need for crayfish. Would a 5.5 gallon be okay for a single procambarus clarkii? I dunno if I wanna get a 10-20 gallon for a single crayfish when I could do a community fish tank instead
@ralfnuggs1652 жыл бұрын
Yeah a 5 gallon is plenty, in my opinion a single crayfish will do a lot better in a smaller tank. You could do a nice little tank, simple yet elegant and not have to bother with it much. Maybe throw in a beta fish or some live plants. But 10-20 gallon is overkill for one crayfish unless you really want to be super humane and think you’ll eventually upgrade anyway.

@ralfnuggs1657 жыл бұрын
Chief of Clash nah you don't have to keep the water shallow for air, I do that so my crawfish don't crawl out of the tank because they tend to do that every once in a while. I would recommend putting an air stone for oxygen if there's not a lot of surface tension like I mentioned in the video

@ralfnuggs1658 жыл бұрын
By cycling the tank I meant the nitrogen cycle, but if you're talking about how often your filter should cycle your tank about 3 times an hour depending on size and the amount of fish you have. Do 60% water changes 1ce a month or 80% every 2 months. Good luck!

Homie, I had more problems with an under crowded tank. Crawfish are insanely social creatures. They have territorial tendencies but aren’t naturally aggressive unless they are lonely.... Give them adequate filtration, plenty of hiding spots and crowd the tank to a comfortable level.... YOURE right though. In nature they’d have way more space, and I can’t speak on happiness, but I promise they live a healthier life in my tank

@@ralfnuggs165 oh ok I was just concerned with the water quality because they're pretty messy and poop a lot, keeping so many in such a small space just didnt seem like a good idea to me.. 👌🏻

The actually prefer to be overstocked (kind of like African cichlids) so as long as there’s plenty of hiding spaces

I thought crayfishes were carnivorous. at least mine were.
@ralfnuggs1658 жыл бұрын
They are omnivore but some species are solely herbivore
@Moocavo38 жыл бұрын
Oops meant to type cannibals. Because my crayfishes ate each other and it seems like you have a lot for a tank of that size.
@ralfnuggs1658 жыл бұрын
+JY C oh yeah they will attack each other you have to outnumber males 1/2 with females and that should work well,
