Also if you even leave 1 leaf on the stems they have a head start and will grow babies much faster! :) They need their energy from the leaves. Speeds things along, once a baby shows up you can pluck the leave and propagate that as the baby leaves will be the energy source now.

Hi Jordan. Great vids! Here's a tip... For the leaves that don't seem to grow roots or plants, but still stay green, pop them vertically, callus side down, into soil. However, with this method, they need at least 1.5" of soil not just a thin layer like in your propagation tray. I've used both shallow Tupperwares and regular pots. Stick anywhere from 1/4-1/3 of the leaf in the soil (your pref, but I usually put the bigger ones in deeper to hold them steady and the small ones more shallowly). For some reason, I've found this encourages roots to grow for stubborn leaves and eventually they'll sprout a plantlet, though these damn stubborn leaves do seem to take their time even once in the soil lol. But, it at least makes use of an otherwise useless leaf! Give it a try! (I honestly forgot how I figured that out but I tried it once and it's worked for me ever since.) Also, despite being a succulent grower for the past couple years (and an avid orchid grower for the past 6-7) I learned some great tips behind the methodology regarding watering from you!

Hi qveenissac. I have some issues like your and I sensed I need to bury them in the soil :)) I started propagating my succs last month and I learned a lot from all of you guys! Thank you!

I tried this method aswell and does seem to work; but when should you take them out? Mine seem to be growing but unsure when to take them out :/
@qveenissac4 жыл бұрын
@@JoNextDoor54 I'd either pot them in an existing pot with larger succulents so they'll just blend in or pot a few leaves together in a container. You can transplant them but do so gently, trying not to disturb/stress the roots and do so when the plantlet isn't super fragile.

Really enjoyed your video! I'm new to the world of succulents, (other than Aloe & Jade, lol). And I had received about 8 different succulents from a wedding on Aug.4th,'17. They were tabletop decor and in small square glass planters. No one else wanted them but I did! So I brought them home. At that time I had noticed that a few leaves on some had roots so I took those off and planted them into dirt. They died almost right away. Today I transplanted all the succulents into larger pots and I noticed a few leaves again had roots. So I hit up the videos on KZbin. And I must say I watched quite a few vids before I clicked on yours and yours is by far the best for help in guiding a newbie such as myself. Now I know to just lay them upon the dirt and a new plant will grow from them.Thank you for sharing. I appreciate it! ~ A new subscriber and succulent lover

if you want to put your succulent into a container without a drainage hole you can either put one in or you can put a layer or rocks/ pebbles at the bottom and mix some small pebbles or perlite into the soils and do a deep water about once a month and mist it with a spray bottle 1-2 times a week

I love your enthusiam. I have an echeveria(Perle von Nurnberg) that I bought a few weeks ago and and accidentlally overwatered. A few petals(leaves) fell off and I decided to see if I could propogate them. I set the leaves aside on top of the dirt of another plant and just about when I was going to give up and toss them, one of them sprouted a baby! I promptly removed it and put it in some new succulent soil in a small homemade planter(I cut off the top rim of a plastic cup and filled it with soil and voila, a new planter). I plan on moving the baby to a terra cotta pot when it grows a little larger. Anyway, I just cut the baby from the dehydrated leaf and planted the tiny roots downunderneath the soil, of course, lightlly watered it to seal it in the soil and set it out. I'm going to take your advise about putting the baby in full sun just yet. I'll keep in high indirect light for now. Wish me luck. Followiing your advice and instructions, I don't see how I could fail!

Hey Jordan!!! I just wanted to say thank you for these videos. I live in north Dakota and it was a bit hard to keep my propagation going (I am originally from illinois but havent had plants in years) but with your tips I have been less afraid to "overwater" them. I am almost at 1 month and it's going so well that I started a second propagation project :) .

I propagated some leaves because when I first bought the parent plant, I didn't know I shouldn't water so much and overwatered and it wilted and I almost killed it. I don't think it will flower now because this plant had some interesting things flowering out of the top of it but when it wilted they died. I removed that part of the plant and watered less and it got healthy but grew in a less harmonious way, I mean it's looking a bit wild but still alive and the leaves have sprouted so by summer I should be able to repot I think. Thank for your help propagating.

Jordan Rosendale how do you know when the succulents are ready to be propagated?
@tourmaline83477 жыл бұрын
Any time when the plant is well established with a good amount of leaves, or if it is very stretched. If it is very stretched, cut off some of it and leave a couple of leaves on the stump of it. You can pluck some leaves off of the portion that was cut off and you can let the cut off portion callous and then do the same thing as you do with leaves.
@christinekho57547 жыл бұрын
Julia Cat actually when they start to look more 'stretched out' from the side view they can be propagated. Technically speaking, if you want to keep the parent plant, you can just remove the bottom leaves. This can prevent insects from inhabiting the rotted leaves there. Hope you find this useful. P.S good luck with your succulent!
