...and I thought it was just me....thank you. Stitch markers are GREAT! Dont crochet without, I have developed a habit of using them. When I reach for my yarn and hook i grab them to. Just remember, "stitch markers are my friends, they make me happy" 😉

Haven’t crocheted a long time so needed refresher. So I learned from Clare and am back 😃 Yes I had lots of crooked edges when I began to crochet. I did while watching tv so I’m sure I wasn’t paying close enough attention to my crochet 😆🤣😂 Don’t be discouraged, it happens to us all, and Clare is an excellent teacher so if you’re watching this you’re in good hands 😃

have you tried to use a hook yet. even just practicing holding a hook without even crocheting can help. the only way you will get used to using a hook is to actually crochet with it. you first project won't be perfect but you will have finished something. practice, practice, practice. that is how you will be able to get better

@@CrochetwithClare I tried using the hook but it was just so awkward. I also think my carpal tunnel may be preventing my dexterity but that's just my thought. When I use my fingers , everything just flowed effortlessly. Except for the wonky shape thing lol.

Hi Clare! Great video! I have been crocheting for so long (off and on over 50 years) and don’t usually make this mistake. Recently, Lo and behold I was looking at an afghan I have been working on off and on and saw that the edge was getting smaller on one side! Sure enough I had to rip out about 40 rows because I wasn’t paying attention. I just had to laugh. It happens to us all I think! It wasn’t the first time and it probably won’t be the last!😀

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have been crocheting for years, but have always had this problem. I think that part of my problem is that I have such a tight gauge. Yes i made this mistake and it is not easy to see the stitch. Will try your method, I have always counted the stitches but found that on first row there is 20 turned 1 chain into 1st to end counted stitches and there is always 19 sometimes 18 it is driving me mad. I realised it was at the end of a row did 10 rows. Work was straight finished there until next day started again and started to end up with missing stitches again. Don’t you loose one stitch on first row of chain therefore you are only working on 19 stitches? I adjusted this by making a 21 chain don’t know if this is correct but it worked for me. Glad I found you I was just about to give up and go back to knitting.
@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare 2 жыл бұрын
hi, no you are not losing one stitch each row. your starting chains almost always count as your first stitch unless otherwise stated in the pattern ie-{(chain 3, dc into each stitch across)(ch1, sc into each stitch across)}, the mistake usually is happening with either missing that first space or the very last one. you should also be making your last stitch into the turning chains from the row below. your patterns will usually state this. that is why it is always good to count every row to make sure no stitches were missed.

I have been back and forth with crocheting. I took it up many years ago and did not like the way it looked ( edges not straight) then I took up cross stitch and loved it now I am to old for that ( my eyes are not good enough for the intricate work) so I am determined to do crocheting. Have watched so many videos I am cross eyed. There are so many ways to turn a corner it is confuseing. Everyone out there in crochet land pray for me

Hi Bob Wilson, I would like to ask you if you could recommend some easy/beginner projects that would be good for me to practice with the new stitches I have recently learnt. I have learned single crochet, double and treble crochet stitches. Could you please create a playlist with videos you have already made that would be good for a beginner like myself to learn from?
@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare 6 жыл бұрын
hello Rach, almost all of my videos and designs are suitable for beginners but you can always start with afghans as they use mainly one or two stitches to make. you can also check out the section on my website for cowls and scarves. www.bobwilson123.org/afghans--granny-squares.html

if it's not really noticeable you can always just add or remove the stitch you need. otherwise yes you would have to start over

If you were following a pattern and followed your way of doing a stitch into the first stitch instead of a chain then into the next how would you incorporate that into the pattern ?
@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare 9 ай бұрын
You would just ignore what the pattern tells you for the first stitch. For example, if the pattern says chain 2 and then half double crochet in the next stitch, ignore the chain 2 and do it this way instead. Hope that helps. Thank you for watching my video.

Do you ever help with more complex problems in projects? I am making a vintage crochet dress from a 1970-71 pattern. (It is not nearly as helpful as today's patterns, plus the sizing chart is way different!) That's my problem. I chose a size that should have matched my size, and even had the gauge worked out to size. But, my finished skirt portion is at least 5 inches larger than it should be! I am trying to figure out how to alter it without starting all over. I have searched the internet without success so far. I know without seeing what I am talking about it would be hard to help, but I thought perhaps you had some suggestions on where to go to find help. Thanks so much for your patterns and videos. I have made several of your patterns with success!
@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare 6 жыл бұрын
i am sorry but from the sounds of it and for the fact that it is a garment you will most likely have to start the entire skirt over. there really isn't a way to alter crochet to fit after a piece or fabric has already been made.

I am so sorry for the slow reply! I promise I am not usually this slow at responding. Been changing over the website and took longer than expected Have you been using stitch markers at both ends of your row? Unfortunately it can be very tricky to fix, have you used the same colour for the whole blanket so far?

@@CrochetwithClare Now I'm sorry for the slow reply. I have pulled it out several times since posting that comment!! It is really crazy, but I am having the devils own job with this project!! I have created several blankets, several pairs of fingerless gloves, and my piece de resistance.... a cardigan for my daughter! But this cardigan for me is just driving me nuts! It is a simple (seemingly) rectangle design, then add collar and sleeves. But the measurements never seem to quite work out. I have pulled it out I think 3 or 4 times so far. But, I am not going to let it beat me! Thank you again. Take care x

Hello. I would like to know if you have some good suggestions for a shawl in a mohair. I have some that I would like to use up,I don't really want to make a jumper. It's a lovely torquoise colour in eight ply, and would you use a bigger hook?. If you could help me it would be most helpful. Thankyou. Ros Lyle. WA.

I am making a baby blanket. The number of rows, so height of the stitch, is meeting gauge. My blanket is looking like a parallelogram though, even with using a stitch marker and counting the number of stitches in each row, so this is correct. What can I do to correct this please?
@CrochetwithClare
@CrochetwithClare 3 жыл бұрын
Hello. I am not sure why it would be doing that, it could be that the first row was looser and now you are used to the pattern your stitches have evened out. How many rows have you completed?

You could have possibly missed a stitch or two is a few rows. You may be able to block it out to an even edge.
