They really can survive rain, an unexpected rain happened while my haunt was out with all the props (besides grim, I brought him in the night before incase this was to happen cause his stuff is exposed), and I hadn't bagged the animatronics and it was about a 15 minute long rain. I tested them after they dried off and they still worked.

Sand bags and bricks even gorilla tape sometimes

Menards has some blocks that have a divot down the center. So the block sits over the metal rods of the animatronic base. Otherwise sand bags would be good.
