This is a video that can be useful anywhere in the world. We used Pattaya, Thailand as an example because that's where we were when we made this very informative travel vlog.
This vlog will explain how to keep your valuables safe without using an electronic hotel safe in Pattaya, Thailand, or anywhere else in the world. This also works with key safes as well. Richard has come up with his own system of securing his valuables without using a hotel safe. He has everything from specialized locks, to dummy wallets in his bag of safety tips and tricks. This is a "must see," How to" video for anyone traveling Thailand, or the world over.
I really hope you enjoy these live streams and travel vlogs as much as I love making them. They are just another reason I love being an expat in Thailand.

Good info😎👍 I like the diversion setup!!!! For myself staying in hotels for over 35 years as a pilot and being in 54 countries: I can attest to tipping the front desk and housekeeping in advance. (even just a buck $1) Learning the local language/customs and being considerate/respectful helps too.

Jeremy Clodfelter Yes Brother, I too have some other ideas, but don’t want to publish them. However one thing us pilots do is to take a paper copy of our passport/ID along with us wherever we go. If you get into some outside unplanned issues at least you can be readily identified in a way that makes you look legit/reputable to certain authorities.

Agree with this video, however, I would recommend leaving the luggage out in plain sight - putting it under the desk could send the message that you don’t want it to be seen because there is something of value in it.

You do realise that key code safe is even more easier to open , the person either needs to use a master code or master key to unlock your Keycode safe 🙂 Good video though 👍🏻 and I totally agree it's better to leave your valuables in your LOCKED bag than in a hotel safe , this way atleast you will definitely know if someone has been into your things. On a lighter note What's stopping a person to just walk off with the entire padlock safe bag ? 😜😂

Many travel insurance pay if things are stolen from safe locker but not if they stolen your bag or room if you are not present.. that one thing what you should think but of course read your own insurence terms.. and usually hotel have master key for avery safe even tough its number lock safe.

another trick is to borrow a cocktail straw from a bar and lay that across your luggage in a place where its not obvious. if your luggage is moved the straw will fall and its unlikely they would notice it or would know where to replace it on the luggage.

Not to get too crazy, but I am in the Hotel Profession, and believe me an ounce of precaution is warranted. I don't want to tell you the whole story but I know of one event in NYC while the guest was away on a day trip a rather brazen thief stole all the guest luggage and his car, and got an additional cash paid out of 200 dollars on checkout.

If you insert a ball point pen into any zip, it will burst open. To then re-Zip it closed all you need to do is roll back the two padlock zip ends > over the opened section and trust me nobody knows its ever been opened. You kindly explained how to open the security pack. All Hotel safe boxes have an *override code* Staff have it. And porters have door keys. Dipping a few ££$$ is the Risk not theft of all luggage. That said your method might work as there are so many stages to getting to your stash. > Better counter measures needed .

Sorry to burst your safety advice bubble but crooks won't waste their time fiddling with an Amazon 3 pin combination lock(which by the way is really easy to get into no matter the maker). Nowadays the thief either just puts your bag into another bag and walks away with it (I know you have said this is unlikely however your very wrong) or just forces the tip of a sharp object, (I've used a pencil) or knife into the zip and bursts it. I've been a cop for 30 years and after interviewing hundreds of thieves I keep my knowledge up to date.

I agree that the suitcase if a safer place to store your valuables than the room safe. But you should do a search on youtube for "open luggage with a pen". The zipper sliders should really be locked to the side of the suitcase, for the suitcase to be a somewhat secure option in my opinion, but then again does the random maid know the pen trick? Anything can be broken into, so yeah the diversion stuff you're doing is great. Personally I hide like all my money where I belive noone would look and only leave my passport, a credit card and a few baht in the safe when I'm out of the room.

It is good to be safe, but in 10 years i've visited the most a girl has taken is some gum because she liked it a lot, a charger (which was actually from a different girl) and some condoms. Yes i know i've been lucky but in reality, Thailand is safe. I try to always stay in same hotels but if i stay on a different one and something looks odd, I will take my key, passport and money with me until I find another hotel. One tip I have is never telling anyone when you are leaving if you don't have to, so that they don't try anything on your last day.
