This is great, I wish more people would do this. Eucalyptus are not indigenous to Portugal and like you said, a huge fire hazard, it depletes the soil, impedes native flora to grow, uses too much water, etc. I hate them and I hate how Portugal is covered in them because people have a short term view and want quick profits without caring for the well being of the land.

Thank you for your comment. I totally agree. Eucalyptus should be deforested with more native trees or diverse plantations that offset carbon and create a yield

Thank you. I have never dug one out so I don’t know. But based on their growth and that they are planted high up in dry places I would say they just have deep roots. But that is a guess.
@rubenverheij47702 жыл бұрын
. The roots go deep, because the Eucalyptus tree is a desert plant from Australia. If there are too many Eucalyptus-trees in an area in Europe, local water-level goes down. Local plants can't reach this deep with their roots and die. If fire starts, this isn't a problem for the Eucalyptus-tree, because this plant is made to survive forest-fires. Forest-fires in south of Eu are not the cause of "climate change"!! This is what main-stream media is telling the world, but it's a lie! The problem is, the Eucalyptus tree➜Eucalyptus-tree is an invasive-species (not from Eu). And farmers from Eucalyptus-tree plantages pay ppl to plant Eucalyptus-trees in local-forests and burn down this local-forests after the Eucalyptus trees are mature enough to survive a forest-fire. All local-wildlife die in local-wildlife because of thirst or because of a fire (Oil in Eucalyptus-tree + dried-up plants causes extreme heat in a fire). After a fire, all what is left are the Eucalyptus-trees. All other wildlife have died. Ps. I did protest against Eucalyptus trees (in the 90s) in south of Europe, this is why I know so much about it. Lucky we have KZbin now!! Reaching ppl is much easier now. Thank you KZbin!! :)

shallow-rooted beauties, much maligned and even more misunderstood. Planted in the wrong place, like Pawlonia or anything else: rats and humans e.g., they can be a problem.

Is it easy to remove the tree stump? It seems there is no clear answer to the question of whether eucalyptus trees drain the underground water tables. I've read some articles, and some say they are water guzzlers, while others are saying this is a myth. Some say that nothing grows near it, while other articles say it's good for other agricultural crops. What is the real truth?

Morning, thanks for you comment. I think they are just called chainsaw trousers. Apparently the chainsaw can't cat through them. They are quite expensive, hot and annoying to put on and off. But if it saves my leg one day the it is worth it!

Now under trousers I found this piece of equipment. I thought I was like an apron. But this one has also loops, i get what you mean about this being anoying to put one and off. But still better than the normal pants were I would need to take my shoes off. Thanks for the reply. Take care

Have read your message with much interest. Having recently acquired a house in Britanny with a garden dominated by a huge Eucalyptus, I'm thinking of getting rid of the tree as it really sucks up humidity and ground fertility as well as having constant branch growth while dropping leaves and sheaths of bark. However, I'd like to maintain the lower part of the tree as a stump to act as support for climing plants such as roses. Please could you advise on the viability of my plan, as well as advice on the most effective killing technique to adopt in this case (radical ringing?), bearing in mind the large circumference of the tree (200 cm): - need to strip off all the bark or just a width? - additional injection of chemicals? - other thoughts? Thank you for your advice on this.

Why not paint over the stump !?after chopping the tree down! so it can’t regrow !???
@keelapermaculturefarm11 ай бұрын
I need to try it to know if that works. But we try to avoid using chemicals on the farm, and most paint has chemicals in. I am happy going round chopping the new growth back, giving me an excuse from doing a proper job when I am feeling lazy. :)
@maintenancetech283 Жыл бұрын
It seems when I cut the shoots off of the stump even more grow back! I've resorted to de-shooting the stump every day in hopes of curbing photosynthesis. I'm sure it doesn't help that the stump is in a creek bottom getting plenty of water and tons of sunshine. :\
@keelapermaculturefarm Жыл бұрын
In our experience it will eventually give up. But ours are in a dry place. Although I've never tried it, locals have said to drill a whole in the stump and put salt water down to kill them.
