As a current IM prelim on wards going into DR next year, this has me pumped up. I can't wait to be done with the endless rounding

I'm sure it hasn't changed that much since I was a resident, 03-07. First year study your *ss off. Seriously. I pretty much read 1-3 hours every night after work. Yes, you heard that right. We took call six months in. Personally think that's a big loss for new residents. You need to put your feet in the fire asap, and that fear made me study much, much harder. "I can't miss an ectopic. I can't miss a PE. etc" It's like an investment, learn as much that first year before you're taking call. Read all the recommended high yield books over, and over, and over again. I kept reading after first year, but I found I had such a base that things 'compounded' quickly after that. Last advice...don't pigeonhole yourself. 'i don't do procedures'. 'i don't do mammo' etc etc. The more you learn, the more useful and marketable you will be in the real world. Have a can do attitude. I didn't like the needle. I got over it with a lot of practice. Was residency a little scary at times? Yes. Was it a lot of fun? Definitely. It's still fun for me 20 years later. Cheers.

Can you do a video about what to look for in a residency to be successful in tele rads or private practice? Maybe before March 3rd? Dreading making my ROL. Thank you, man 🙌

Stepping into a college this fall as a pre-med freshman, I love your videos but to be frank man they scare the hell out of me. I don’t know if I could handle it all

hey i don't mean to scare or offend but merely share. medicine can be intense but its also routine. i've got a lot on my plate but life gets easier, even as it gets more complicated. the key is having a positive attitude that you will overcome all obstacles; a blind belief in yourself and your abilities. think matrix - neo. best, sg

I keep telling myself to not think much about my future now because I’m only 15 but i just keep thinking of the problems i may face if I didn’t; it gives me headaches sometimes🙃.. but a year and a half ago i knew more about radiologist and their value in hospitals.. i love medicine but I don’t know if radiology is right for me.. more specifically I’m scared cause after my research a lot of people/some radiologist or technicians didn’t like it after they finished studying it.. but I can’t take my mind off of it, maybe cause I really love the medical field and want to be part of it but feel like I’m not good enough for other specialists or maybe cause I really love and want to pursue the dream of being a radiologist regardless of what everyone else’s experience have to say about it

Sarel Gaur MD I have had a biopsy of my liver. When I had it done there was a radiologist in the room besides the 2 doctors who were doing the procedure. I was just wondering if the radiologist being there, could be becauce they used ultrasound to find a good spot to do the biopsy and not hit my ribs...

Best thing is to shadow. Don’t start with obsessively teaching yourself this without actively experiencing it. Many might like the idea of radiology but it’s much more difficult in reality. Med school itself is a huge task and takes an incredible amount of discipline. Good luck!
