"Be mindful of how much time you are asking people to invest in this", what a great line.

Brilliant advice. I really like John Harper’s slogan “hold on lightly”. It applies to running a campaign too: you can have a ton of great ideas but you need to be willing to let some of them go so you can respond to the players’ ideas and follow the campaign where it leads.

Thank you!! Yeah, I hold on so lightly to my campaign notes it looks like I'm barely gming at all sometimes! I love to just follow the players around!!

Thanks for sharing this feedback situation. I think we've all been there, put a tonne of effort into something, but sense something is wrong. We then ask for feedback hoping people will say "no, its fine". Then when then inevitable "yes, its broken" response comes in, we cant help but be defensive. With so much time invested, it is perhaps human nature. Being mindful of that defensiveness is really a great pointer. There is a skill to giving good feedback, but also a skill to receiving feedback.

Yeah! I think about this a lot as an art professor. I think feedback needs to be done in a trustful space with people who can tell you what you are trying to accomplish before they swing in with "fixes"

This is one of my biggest problems… I have many characters who I have grown this huge attachment to and I really don’t want to get rid of them. Each of them do play in important part in my story but it might just be a bit too much for people. I’m thinking about trying to fix up the story to make it work with all the characters but if it isn’t possible… I might just have to kill my beloved characters. Thank you for explaining this

Tbh, I prefer the original map! I see how the revised map is far more gameable, but aesthetically the first map resonates with me much more, something about the wavy grid lines and how jam-packed it is really tickles my fancy
@mapcrow3 жыл бұрын
Yeah! Can see that. It became a real issue when I tried adding labels to things. Might have been okay if I keyed the locations, but I don’t like to key my maps.

@@mapcrow That’s very fair, having to flip pages to find the key definitely gets in the way of game time. Either way, your work is great. If you have the file anywhere, I’d love to download that original and print it as a poster for my wall ahaha

I have such a bad habit of trying to defend my choices all the time, it's so hard not to get defensive😂 But if I want to improve, I guess I do need to learn to accept feedback regardless of wether I agree or not.
