For anyone who ends up with another loop on each row (youtube isn't showing a reply button on all "linked" comments, thus I can't respond to some individuals... ), you might wrapping the first stitch up and around the needle, creating what looks like two stitches, but in fact, you're seeing 2 legs of the first stitch. Make sure your yarn is under and to the back of your work and the first stitch looks identical to all further stitches. :)

I'm a knitter - what, what! Thank you, Chandi I am a beginner. i looked at several videos, but yours was the first that i could actually follow what was being done. Thank you for taking the time to slow it down and really give a step by step. i paused, i rewound, i watched it over and over....and i have recommended it to a friend who also wants to learn. My only continuing problem is getting the yarn wrapped on my hand to create the right tension. I already know how to crochet and that may be causing the problem. hugs!

@ExpressionFiberArts10 жыл бұрын
Practice will help with that! You could try a thinner yarn too or a bigger needle. Also, try less tension on the yarn as it runs through your fingers, so that it stays firm but easily flowing through.

This might sound a bit odd but one of the reasons why I like your video most is because there's a perfect amount of talking (!). I have crochet for years and consider myself advanced; but I really wanted to try something new and have envied some knitting patterns and wished I could do them. So, I have tons of yarn to choose from and I picked up a set of needles and watched some "KZbins videos". I have spent hours practicing casting on, knit and purling; but the yarn still felt really awkward and found myself "knitting" tighter and tighter out of frustration. Never one to give up, I've continued to watch more videos hoping to find some clue as to what I was doing wrong. YOU said the magic words, you hold your yarn and use "left-handed" techniques, why????, because you are a crocheter!!! You are the first person in all the videos I watched that tied those two dots together for me. I've always followed the right-hand instructions because I'm right-handed. It's amazing how a tiny thing can make such a HUGE difference! It was like day and night, all of a sudden it felt natural and I felt like I was using needles instead of trying to knit with baseball bats. I guess you never know what will make the difference. Your video made the difference - thank you!

Okay you guys, first of all; knitting is something you have to do 90% of it on your own. It's all in how you hold the needles and how much patience you have. This would help me occupie my mind and hopefully do something for my beautiful wife who now works 7 days a week and at home. If you are interested enough to make a comment and try to do it....you will have a blast when you actually achieve it. Her instructions for long tail are as simple as it gets. So instead of sitting by yourself and fumbling why not find a person at a crafts event that does it and follow them. you find tying a note on a stick with string tough....how did you make it through to life from a child??? no insult intended. s@#$ I had to do it under fire! we built a bridge across a GD river out of rope! edit....I did say river not creek we had to swim the rope across! go find your expert and have a blast, and then brag to the girls about the cable sweater you made from scratch. total coolness. ty for posting, again!!!!

I think, after the part with the slipknot, it should be mentioned that you have to put the tail in front (around your thumb) and the working strand back (around your index finger). This is important, because otherwise, you end up knitting with the tail. But even experienced knitters, sometimes get a little bit confused and start knitting with the tail and have to start from the beginning. ;-)

THANK YOU!!! that is where I have been messing up when trying to cast on. I've crocheted for more than 40 years but couldn't find anyone to teach me how to knit. This is a great video that goes slow enough , and you can back it up and watch again. With this info casting on makes sense now, and I learned how to do it.

confusing ...and dealing with people we will not get into attitudes, driving and working we wont get into getting people to help us tying a knote, under , over around and through a few times...i guess i should have been a brain doctor instead of making rockets. lloolll i can fee the genius coming on! well guess you folks are right it is tougher than hell....i cant do much of anything with your defeatist attitudes! i think she picked the easiest start there is and she also gives you a good start with the knit stitch and working it...that knot is the start stitch for cabling and flowering and really adding texture to your work. i taught two guys that are more macho than a biker to knit, a Colonel and dozens of others. easy peazy!!!! but ya gotta drop the defeatism! first!

Alicia Gardner You should be really proud at your age. I think you should keep up the good work and once you get to be a little older, you will realize how important having a hobby can be and it can also turn into a job if you wish too. You can give courses, open your own little yarn shop. You can do volunteer for kids, eldery or in hosp. Your life will be full of joy if you can share your work with others just like our tutors on YT!!!

Chandi, I found your video so much more helpful than the class I took at the local fabric store - thank you! Have you done a video on how to correct mistakes? As a beginner, I often find myself needing to un-knit (tink?) back to a mistake, but the whole thing becomes a complete disaster. I'm afraid to start the beginner knitted scarf kit that I ordered from you (beautiful yarn!) until I know how to correct my mistakes properly. Thank you.
