How to knit on a double bed knitting machine / Passap Duomatic 80

Not only is the Passap known as a true double bed machine but it is also known as a "FIXED" double bed and a "V" frame knitting machine. I really like your clear and uncomplicated explinations. Very good instruction and review. I really like how you explained adding or increasing many stitches at one time. This is just like casting on with a secure base row. I can't wait to see you explore the many stitch patterns and textures this machine can do without a punch card or a computer. I love this knitting system. ❤😅🥰👍

In different countries not all sock yarns are created equal. If machine knitting cone yarns are available, 2 strands of 2/24 size acrylic yarn threaded together through the eyelets work very well. For some, you may want to look at lace weight hand knitting yarns that need to be rewound into cakes for the machine. Understanding the weight to yarn length that is charted in the manual is the best way to know what yarn available in your area will work well with this machine. This information in the manual would also make a great future yarn availability, shopping video. The wrong yarn or stitch size to yarn size can be the source of beginner frustrations.

Thank you! Yes indeed, I learned that the hard way. And must admit, after all these years I sometimes still struggle with one of my many machines if the yarn is not quite suitable for that machine 🤣 Unfortunately coned yarn is not abundantly available where I live. But I should dive into online suppliers sometimes, I guess online a lot more is available 😜

Thank you so much. I have this machine not in such new conditions though in perfect order of running. I now have the basic. I was intimidated and rubbed into issues so I stopped using it. I am struggling with the setting depending of the wool and also the color changer. Not sure mine works so nicely as yours but I now have the video to check. Thanks again, it gives me hope again.

I also have a green Passap, used. Unfortunately I can’t knit on it without a weighted comb, as strippers usually aren’t enough. Some other Passap users I know do this too. I don’t know if this is due to ageing mechanics? Anyways just to say there are Passap long claw weights that knitters can use when short rowing to hold down the stitches. 💡

Thank you, Bas for explaining this so clearly, I never did quite understand why N/X? I have always thought of Passap and the Superba and truly "real" double beds as the angle of the beds are exactly the same, unlike the Japanese machines, except maybe the Artisan 7mm machine, that too is a true double bed.

Yes correct, because of the angle. But also because of the same needles and carriage/locks. They produce such a beautiful double bed fabric 😀

Please, i have like yours, do you know why some needles dont catch the yarn? And second question, i’ve been told that passap used special thin yarn ( not manual) , can i use any thin yarn even those used for hand knitting ?

Yes correct, you can use any thin yarn even for hand knitting. The easiest is yarn that has a little stretch like wool or acrylic. Not cotton for a beginner.

Can youplease tell me how I can use a thread of 3 or 4 ply as the machine does not give a higher tension than 8 it is ok with the one ply but not with thicker thread thank you

It is easier to use thinner yarn. Don't use yarn that is too thick. Good luck! 👍🏻

How often do you plan to make Passap videos? Do you have special interest uses for your new machine?

I currently try to make one video per week, which is actually quite a big task. I hope I can keep up 🤞 Content wise, I have several idea’s, as I have more knitting machines. I guess I will be very busy for quite some time making basic video’s for each kind of knitting machine. But in the end, I just want to have fun with all of my machines and knit some beautiful garments 😀

Currently 7, but it varies depending on what I come across (and what I need to let go spacewise). Passap, Knittax, Singer/Superba doublebed, Singer Solo, Brother bulky and normal gauge. And you do you also have several machines?

@@ZabbezOriginal yes. You can call it a collection but when you run out of room to be able to use them , I think it is called hoarding. I havr several Passap E6000 , 1 Passap Vario, several very old machines including knittax, 1 SuperbaS48, an old 4.5 singer, 2- 4.5 card reader knitking. A Few others , I can't remember but need to sell or find a loving home for. 1 Dubied cast iron machine. Once I called this rescuing machines. I have loved learning all the different systems. Each machine has a collection of STUFF that goes with it.
