OH my gosh, after all these years I have learned something new! I was taught to do the YO from the purl side, which made my holes pretty big as you indicated. It makes much more sense to do the purl YO from the knit side, as demonstrated here and much easier for me as a lefty. Not a big deal for me that the 'leg' of he YO is facing opposite direction when working back, easy fix. Thanks you for your clear and concise instructions. Will try it this way for part four as I already past this section. (Sorry, knitting this pattern is very addicting; just can't put it down.)

Thank you so much, Marly, for teaching your viewers about knitting through the advancing thread/leading leg, "the leg that is all ready to step off the needle" & "the one saying 'Knit me! I'm all ready to go!". (Just love your phrases!!) This is one of the most important concepts of "combined knitting" and I truly believe that more knitters would benefit from learning how to knit (and to purl) through both types of stitch placements: the "teardrop" (front leg leading) and the "saddle" (back leg leading). For too many years too many beginners were told that the saddle positioning was "wrong" or "backwards" and too many knitters have wasted too much time and patience on repositioning those stitch loops when it wasn't even necessary!! Thanks again, Marly, for helping to spread the word!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻✨🌟⭐️🌟✨💕😃💕👍🏻👍🏻

My goodness Marly! You have made this shawl so easy to make. The way you broke down the pattern, row by row and then this video, I mean, I've been able to knit this shawl. The pattern looks intimidated yet, you made it so so very easy. I love it. Thank you so much! Oh, and the yarn over tip, wonderful. Thank you.

Working this pattern right now and it's a very easy pattern to follow. I started this 2 days ago and am ready to start on this section today! I am using a thicker yarn and larger needles and it's turning out to be such a great garment so far!

Just before I started watching this video, I had gone on and done the row 37 yo p2tog the way I've always done them but ripped it out when I saw how you do it differently. I tried to do the yo p2 tog the way you show and ended up with 1 too many on one side of the markers so had to rip it out again. If at first you don't succeed . . . it will have to wait until later, though, because my eyes are all out of focus right now.

Great job Marly. I would ask one favor please. When doing the Line for Line Directions (which are great) is it possible to upload them as single pages? It is very small print even on Landscape. Also, the color yellow is hard to read. Thanks so much and keep the needles clicking!

Hi Marly! For some reason my p1 to [yo, p2tog] in row 37 leads to a very strange stitch in my row 38 that I'm not sure how to deal with. It's almost like 2 stitches are crisscrossed together. It seems like they are 2 stitches, but they are linked, which makes it hard to knit 1 and then do the kfb. I have ripped it out and tried again 3 times already and this stitch keeps showing up. I know something is wrong because the ends don't look symmetrical. I really hope this explanation makes sense, as I am in desperate need of help. If you have any idea what I am doing wrong or how to fix the stitch, I would be very grateful to hear from you! Thank you 😊

Hi Marly, I'm about to run out of yarn on the first skein. How do recommend joining the new skein?
@MarlyBird7 жыл бұрын
change to a new ball of yarn at the end of the row. Simple stop using the yarn you have been using and start to knit with the new ball. When the shawl is finished you will weave in the ends and be good to go.

I am the same here! I had ripped it off three times. 37; 38 rows a mess ! 🥶 So, I give it up and start to knit something else with better pattern and more useful video! Also unsubscribe it.

Could you add a little high light on the video where you forgot to yarn over so we see it as we follow the video. Plus maybe say row 38 past second marker I forgot to YO.

+Luann Wright I wish I could, but KZbin took annotations away. It's best to always compare the pattern with the video :) I'm only human. Lol.

Marly Bird those KZbin folks should learn to knit, they would surely bring back those annotations! Thanks for the response! I'm doing this shawl a second time and after learning new skills doing the brioche, it's going quickly. In my eyes you're super human knitting woman.....

Love the video! My biggest issue is that I am a Continental knitter and I am having a really hard time with the way you show to do the yo in row 37. Do you have any hints that would help?
@MarlyBird7 жыл бұрын
I am a continental knitter also. When I work on the project between what I show on camera I do it with the yarn in my left hand :) I simply think of it this way, before I go to p2tog I move my yarn to the back then just do my purl. I know you can do it because I did it :-)
@amandaunderwood21977 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Marly!!
@MarlyBird7 жыл бұрын
I do hope it helps. It feels akward because you are leaving the yarn in back as you purl2tog but that is what we want. Give it some time. You can do it.
@amandaunderwood21977 жыл бұрын
Ahhh! It took a bit but I got it! Thank you again, for me being a newer knitter you are extremely helpful and I really appreciate all your help!
@aidahartmann34737 жыл бұрын
Hi Amanda, I'm a lefty and knit Continental as well. For me, when purling, my thumb does all the work! With the yarn in front and standard wrapped around the pointer/fingers, I hold the yarn down slightly tight with my thumb, so the stitches won't slip while I'm purling through both of the p2tog stitches. As the stitch is passed onto the right, I shift the yarn to the back/away from me to do the YO, then grab it down again with my thumb, to keep it tight while I purl the next two together. (Following me?)

Any advice- just started this shawl- I seem to really have a problem keeping count correctly. I am I. Section 4 with 160 stitches. When I do wrong side and doing yo p2 tog. When I come to marker there is only 1 stitch left ? Guess I’m ripping out again 😱
@evabazan19664 жыл бұрын
@@GracefullyUnraveled - thx for your response - I finally got some advice from a fellow knitter to just make that extra stitch a purl as long as the count stayed correct. It finally turned out and it's finished. The lace row is tricky - because of the way she shows it video - but it does come out very nice.

This is 34 row: K1; kfb, knit to mark, yo, slip marker, k2, slip marker, yo, knit to last 3 sts, kfb, k2. You said 38 row the same like 34 row. But in the video you do not do yo after the second marker. Very confusing.!
