Kincade, thanks so much for your tutorial. Got my 1970 Honda SL's rear wheel spoked and tuned! Your tutorial was EXACTLY what I needed! Never done this before, and used an archaic tuning stand but it still worked. Thanks again !

Thanks for the details in this video, re spoking/ trueing a wheel has always been intimidating to me. Now I think I can handle it. I have a yz 300 build in process, I'm not so patiently waiting for my cylinder/ head to get back from Eric Gorr, gonna run a 72mm Wossner piston. Power seal and Millenium Technologies are awesome to work with also. I'm excited to see your finish build and will buy some tickets to maybe get lucky and have a chance at winning it

MXrevival just had a video on lacing and truing. I’m pretty sure Uncle Tony had a method of installing spokes where you don’t have to force the spokes at all. I know I had to do what you did as well. My used rim is a little too beat up. I’m going to have to lace it up again with a new rim. The cerakote looks great as does the whole wheel, and bike for that matter. I like the colors. I’ll be watching this again for sure when I get a new rim as I’ve only done this once before. I thought it was kinda fun.
@brettlaage9687 Жыл бұрын
Also I would have made the same mistake with the truing stand. Thanks for pointing that out. That rear sprocket is so bad ass! It really is like the icing on the cake. Now I’m just going to have to spend more money and buy one 😂

I saw he posted that right as I was about to render my video out haha! Our builds are on similar timeframes for a few components... Stoked to see his YZ finished as well! Thanks a lot for watching, and hope it helps next time you do lace a wheel! I also think lacing wheels is kinda fun. It's a very satisfying task.

Can I use a tusk hub and a excel rim and any spokes ? RMMC said I can only use tusk hubs and rims. Doesn’t sound right
@RolandMeyboom Жыл бұрын
Be careful for any offset on the rear wheel otherwise when you install your wheels they will not be running in line,. Front hubs usually dead center but as you see with the rear with different length spokes if you pull the rim to the left or right when trueing it you will change the position of the tyre in the swing arm left or right of the center line and seriously effect the handling.
@kensimon Жыл бұрын
Enjoyed the vid and you explained the process with tips well. What do you think about tapping on the spokes for even sound tone and or torque to a spec and then tweak ?
@Gofex786Ай бұрын
Great video. Do you use a spoke torque wrench ? I'm starting to think that's my issue because I will get the wheel good and true as you did in the video then torque the spokes to what they call for but then my wheel is all out of being true. It's aggregates the hell out of me.

I have a weird question. Is it possible to lace a front wheel hub into a rear wheel rim ? I ask this because 17” supermoto wheels are hard to find for my bike. This way I could have 18” SM wheels. Technically it’d be 2 rear wheels but the front would just have the front hub to suit so it’d bolt back on.

Did you end up torquing all of the spokes? I want to build up a new wheel and I’m just not sure if I want to purchase a spoke torque wrench that I will probably only use once. Just looking for your thoughts on the importance of it?

Useful but definitely not necessary!

Great video, what if you had one broken spoke you were replacing. Would you loosen all others before adding spoke or just add new spoke? (its basically true with a missing spoke)
@KincadePavich Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I would just replace the one spoke and then true it from there if it needed any work. No need to loosen the rest first!

If you thread all the inner spokes thru first, then the outer, then thread the nipples on, they don't bind as much.

Dont be fooled. Truing a beat up used rear dirt bike rim is not that easy. They have dents from probably 2 rim locks, dents from hard landings, and dents after using tire irons.. truing a new rim is super easy.
