This is a very easy to follow first guide, I'm attempting to lay a concrete base for an outdoor shed/office and this is a good start for me to follow thanks

Just the video I was after. Dont suppose you remember how many bags of ballast and cement you went through?

Great video. The previous owner left a very heavy garden roller, do you think it would be any good for compacting soil ?
@OnlineHousehusband7 жыл бұрын
Justin Holmes yes I'm sure that would be ideal to compact the ground 👍🏼

Alternatively add reinforcement mesh or add joins in the slab with a edging trowel

Hello hope you can help out as nobody is really getting back to us. Newbie in DIY. For the shuttering what wood did use, or recommend you use to ensure the concrete stay in its shape , great video and thanks for the share

Just come across your channel, brilliant content mate! Just wondering, what would you have done if the ground wasn't as solid/compacted? I want to lay a concrete slab for a shed but was also thinking of doing the garden path like this too as it's all a bit wonky since we had some cowboys in a few years ago. Trouble is the ground is kinda loose. Thanks.

I would compact the ground first before adding some sub-base (hardcore). This will ultimately give you the best result.

Love the videos I seen. I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on my current project. I made a video to make it easier for you to see what I’m doing. I just made it last night. How much slope should I have if any. Type of dirt or sand or rock to use to level it? It’s a 12x12 but I’m doing the 6x12 left side first then removing the middle 2by 4 and pour the second part. I measured the corners just like you said on this video. Thank you for that. Here is my video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fX-nm4avhcR_pac

What about making sure its square?
@OnlineHousehusband4 жыл бұрын
Measure the diagonals, corner to corner. To ensure the base is square these should be the same dimension.

Can I ask how many bags of ballad/concrete did it take for this base? I'm guessing it was around 10x6. Great guide, was going to slab one but think I'll do the concrete base now.

John Iddon Hi John, it was around 0.7 cubic metres of concrete from memory. This was worked out from the volume. Once you know your desired volume there are (volume to cubic metre) calculators. A great one is thepavingexpert.com

How deep did you go?

The slab was approx 4" thick (100mm)

thanks paul, Im actualy looking to build a concrete block shed,(single skin) measuring 6x4 & 2.2 mtr high. I have an existing 3x3 slab floor from where i will extend by building a frame around it, do you think i should dig a trench about 8" deep(same height as the block) around the boundry to support the block walls? or is this an over kill?
