Heya, many thanks for the video. I am trying to create a multi-page document using this template, but when I duplicate a page, I just get a blank page without any of the template layers. Is there a way to duplicate the original template page exactly as it is?

Thank you for this tutorial. It was very helpful. The link to the templates in the description doesn't work, is there anywhere I can get the templates? Thank you.
@DiningTablePrintPlay6 ай бұрын
The templates can be downloaded from www.diningtablepnp.com/ (My previous hosting provider jacked their prices up by a ridiculous amount and simultaneously broke access to database backups so it would have been a pain to restore the site as it was - so I'm taking the opportunity to rebuild the site, it's just a time-consuming project and I don't have much time at the moment, so for now I've linked the important stuff on a single page.)

Does anyone know how you could change the template to fit cards which are longer than the general size (e.g. Gwent cards)?

I have been following this tutorial and finally got it to cooperate. Now my issue is the cards print out all jacked up. I tried saving as a PDF and printing that way but 2 of the edges get cut off. Any solutions?

I tried to make a similar temp for a 3x3 grid, i cannot get cropmarks on the corners of all 9, and if i try it on one card only it automatically removes the ones one the corners that i had. I would like to have it for every card. How did you make that? Also i try to add bleedmarks, but nothing pops up at all
@DiningTablePrintPlay9 ай бұрын
I don't know which software in particular you're using - Inkscape? - but it shouldn't actually be removing anything on its own at all. Most likely something else is happening, perhaps one of: - You have the corner selected and it's showing you the outline, but when you lose the selection because you add another corner later, it no longer draws visibly (perhaps it's got no stroke colour, or it's too small to see without zooming in) - Your corners are all still there, but the crop marks are behind another element so you can't see them - You're actually cutting and pasting, or moving the same corner around each time? The overall approach I took to make the template in the first place was to create a rectangle with the correct size for a single card, then use the alignment snapping tools to line several copies of it up together; then lock that layer so I couldn't move anything and create a new layer above that one, using the alignment snapping tools to draw the crop marks up to the corners of the card shapes; then lock that layer and create a new layer below everything, drawing big coloured rectangles to serve as bleed colour. A similar approach should work for more or less any layout of card shapes, really - good luck!

So this is probably just my lack of tech savviness but the links to the svg files just seem to open another page showing the template. I cannot find how to actually download the file. Any help would be apreciated. .
@DiningTablePrintPlay3 жыл бұрын
What's happening is that your browser is loading the SVG file and showing it to you, in the same way that sometimes you'll open a link to a PDF and just see the PDF in your browser. Once you have the SVG open you should be able to hit Ctrl-S in most browsers (I believe Command-S on Mac, but it's been a while) to save it - or you could right-click somewhere on the template and choose 'Save' from there.
@ToxicatedLum2 жыл бұрын
the svg template does not download properly? you click and it opens the image but not a download - managed to download it via googling the key words though
@JakeStaines11 ай бұрын
That's down to your browser, I'm afraid - once the image is open you should be able to save the open document, and if you prefer you should usually be able to right-click on the link (or press-and-hold on mobile) and choose to save the link target. It's opening the image because an SVG file basically is just an image, and the browser understands how to show it so that's what it does. I guess the InkScape devs chose to use SVG as their main format so as to be as interoperable as possible but it has the side-effect of there not being an obvious "InkScape Document" file type to distribute that might be treated differently by browsers.

what size are these cards? i need to get the right sleeves
@DiningTablePrintPlay7 жыл бұрын
These are "Poker size" cards, for which you can use normal 66x91mm sleeves, as used for Magic cards. When I sleeve these I use UltraPro "Standard", and that gives a good fit. (Specifically these are "Euro Poker", which is 63x88mm, which is within a millimetre of but not exactly the same as "US Poker", which is 2.5x3.5". Both sizes of card fit fine in the same sleeves, though. You'll find a mix of the two in gaming; IIRC M:tG cards are Euro Poker, and a lot of board games are US Poker.)

I'm doing the steps at 18:41, but when i paste my card onto the template, the image ends up being behind the white card squares instead of in front and visible. How would i remedy this?
@JakeStaines5 жыл бұрын
Check you're on the right layer. Open the Layers palette (Layer -> Layers) and if you're using the template I put together, there should be a layer for 'Artwork', IIRC. Click on that before pasting your images to make sure they end up in the right place. If you're doing your own template, you might create a new layer above everything else to make sure the images show on top.

Can this be used with illustrator too?
@DiningTablePrintPlay4 жыл бұрын
I use Illustrator myself most of the time, I just did the video with Inkscape because it's more accessible. If anything it's an easier job in Illustrator because you can turn on Smart Guides and have the cards more or less snap perfectly into place, if you have card faces from another file with no bleed! If you check the video description there's a link to the DTPnP site which has both Illustrator (AI) and Inkscape (SVG) templates.

cannot download for mac. why does mac suck at everything
@bigdoubleu1174 жыл бұрын
Because they're expensive, easily breakable, and quickly out of date. Just get someone to build or build a PC yourself, it'll cost about the same as a Mac and you'll get more for your money. Think of it like this, What happens when the Mac is out of date? You have to replace the whole thing. What happens when a PC is out of date? You replace the part that's out of date without needing to buy a whole new computer. Your comment was a year ago, but if you haven't switched over yet, maybe I can save you some money still.
