Stop trying to produce in 5 minutes. It's okay to spend hours or even a day one beat. A beat is a production and ultimately you want to sell that to a major artist. If you take your time on beats and use high quality instruments you will sell more beats. It's okay to put hooks, bridges, breakdowns. It's okay to not only make trap, make east cost, west coast, R&B.

What confuses me the most is that the melody scale you used is C# minor, but for the 808 pattern you used notes outside the scale and they still sounded on point, how does that work?

the first root note of the progression is almost always the scale of the key, after that you can switch it up as long as it’s a note that’s also in that scale
