Best thing to do is record yourself playing the rhythms with your phone, with dynamics. Don't worry about sticking yet. Just have a good version of the rhythms. Then listen to that over and over with ear buds. Eventually when you start adding the sticking it'll be like you're playing to a song you've heard a million times.
@SeanLaMontagne5 жыл бұрын
Yo, never thought of that.

I’ve thought of that but I’m not gonna remember notes 😭
@arwyn67963 жыл бұрын
I love making recordings in musescore not only because I have a perfect recording to listen to, but the act of placing every note individually really forces me to break the music down and understand each measure more intimately and that ends up accounting for a lot of the Read portion. I'm not very fluent with musescore but the longer it takes me to write in the music, the more time I spend getting to now the piece so I see it as a bonus.

1. Think about it like a song, not a sheet music page (play it in your head all the time) 2. Don't force memorization. For me at least, I fall very quickly into a place where my brain connects different parts and I naturally stop looking at the music. I don't know if that's just me.

it also helps if you have an audio of the music

If you don't have to learn it fast I recommend just practicing so much so your remember it naturally - then you get it memorized AND you're very good at it!

This was nice and entertaining! With quads, recognizing patterns usually helps me but I what I usually fail to do is look at the music and play it...then look away and play it...rinse and repeat. I just looked at it and played it but then rep it a bunch without looking at it. Thank you for making this and keep making videos😁

This is such an awesome process!! I agree with this process!! For the memorizing part I usually would play it 4 times while sight reading then 4 times by memorization.

I agree w the structure! I’d add the “hands separate” technique and the “play a measure, skip a measure” technique

Starting at the beginning of phrases and trying to get through it often led to me not being quite as solid with then end of the phrase. After I realized that was happening I started at the end of phrases and would add the previous bar or so on (like, don't start in the middle of a rudiment or something) Spending time to make sure I was solid with the transitions at the end/beginning of phrases helped a lot too.

For me, I listen to MP3 files of my drumline shows and I practice playin' my Bass splits while listenin' to the MP3. I constantly do this every day before school, durin' school, after school, and sometimes a half hour before I go to practice. For me, its kind of a mental thing because I stress out so much in school and i need a break to focus on somethin' else. After all that, I feel better the next day

what helps for me is to play something you're learning right before you go to bed but slowly, making sure you play everything correctly. If you do this a few times every night it seems to get locked into your memory a bit more.

I use the music around me for musical changes n cues. And diffrent section changes. Memorize the beginning 2-4 bars of the music and the 4 bars of the end so if u forget or get confused u can at least begin n end on time.

Oh memories music it been though for me and even then I never been confident I totally got it as what was on the sheet music . Especially when a director was infront of me in rehearsal hoping I got it correct. Your method was my high school directors for every insterment but yeah date lines on days fir performances and for contest sucked for shower people being pushed or me not confident if I got it totally down what on the sheet music or edited by one of the directors.

Congrats on getting into the Commandants Own, I recently just got out and was stationed in Quantico and Lejeune, I play trumpet. From one marine musician to another, enjoy the journey while it lasts even though some weeks may be hectic. It’s gonna be a fast 4 years, and if you choose to re-enlist, good luck on your journey. @gavin_gillespie5 жыл бұрын
So the way I memorize music is actually pretty simple. First I play the whole piece with the music, and then without. This way, I will know what I am struggling to memorize and also what I am struggling with fundamentally. Then I run chunks that are usually either 8 measures, or start at a rehearsal mark, and end at the next rehearsal mark. Then I start running bigger chunks, and finally, attempt to play the whole piece without the music.

I can only imagine how much im gonna struggle with the rest😔 . Any tips? I know I'm gonna upset a lot of musicians out there when I say this... Start from the back and work backwards. The newest material will always be the first thing you play, and everything old that you can already play gets more reps without stopping everytime you get to "the new part" .
