Thank you Tiffany! It is simple to play by ear for whom have already learn it, but if I would like to explain it, it would be very difficult to make it in conscious and put it in didactical phrases. Well done. 👏👏

Hi Tiffany, thank you very much for this tutorial! I like the calm and focused way in which you speak and play. And I like how you take the time to explain and show your methods so that one can really follow well. Especially helpful and inspirational to me was your last tip on how to find chords. I am usually rather impatient when I don't get it right the first time, but you showed me that it can be fun and rather exciting to take the time to try out different chords that might work und really dive into the different sounds and discover, how it influences the character of a phrase. That takes the song on to a much deeper level. Thanks again very much, this was really helpful and inspiring! Greetings from Germany, Theresa

Excellent tutorial, Tiffany. I have long admired your way of arranging and watched countless of your videos in the past to try to see exactly what is is that you are doing. This is a great start and I really look forward to further tutorials on this, fleshing out the chords and putting in passing notes which makes your playing so pleasant to listen to. Thank you, Sara

Truly enjoy your lessons Tiffany! I play a lot by ear but find I am not placing all fingers as I play, rather am placing each finger as I go. Any suggestions on how I can break this habit? Thanks again for your wonderful contributions to the harp world!!! 💓

Hi Suzanne! I think one of the best ways would be to pick an easy tune and start placing from the very beginning. If you've seen my latest lesson - I walk you through it in a simple tune. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eH27o4yHg9R_rdE You might also try a few easy warm ups (like playing triads up and down the harp) while focusing on placing ahead of time. Eventually it will become habit, just don't give up!

I love your videos and watch and learn from them daily.. can you please direct the camera to the strings rather than from an angle...easier to see the notes you play.

Hi Maryane! This is actually a very old video 😅 I think you'd find my current patreon workshops (and the past tune tutorials here on youtube) easier to see! I do want to challenge you to use your ears more than your eyes in this video especially. Thanks for watching!

Your videos are amazing!!! This is a whole new world you’re giving us the door to! Thank you so much for that!! Any tips on how to guess and find the key of a song by ear? And how to make it work on the harp? I find it hard and it’s blocking me a lot... i wouldn’t mind at all paying to get a lesson from you if you can help me with that :) I’m an autodidact too and I like your approach of the instrument and how you self taught yourself too. I did compose many songs on many instruments but having no clue of what I was doing and I sure could get much better if I understood the concept behind it. Same for arranging a song that I’d like to play :) so many songs I love that I’d want to play on my harp but don’t know how or in which key they are... I feel so dumb it’s frustrating to have many ideas that just can’t get on the instrument because of my lack of knowledge 😅🤦🏽‍♀️

Hey Lea! Thanks for the kind words. Feel free to send me an email tiffanyharpandsong@gmail.com if you'd like to set up a one-time lesson this summer. I'm sure we can explore some of that. In the meantime you might find some helpful ideas in the "arranging tips and ideas" playlist on my channel. I'm trying to remember if I addressed finding the key in my Irish session videos...either way there might be some good info in there for you. :) I generally try and find the "home key" of a song to determine the key, it's usually the first or second chord of the song. Sometimes it helps if you can isolate the bass note and that will help you figure it out.

The problem i have is that I can't read the paper worth a darn. I pick it out and give it a listen a couple times, then I just play it without the score. But this ain't so easy when it is a super long piece. Ya tend to forget where you are.
