i've had my license for about a year now and shifting has never really been a problem and i've driven all kinds of cars. But this week i bought my first car and had alot of trouble pulling away. I thought it was a clutch issue but really the problem was me keeping my heel planted on the floormats like my instructor taught me. Idk why i literally never tried lifting my foot but it resolved the problem and probably saved me alot of money bringing it to the shop. Thank you.

This video helped me pass my manual driving test in one attempt. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After 12 driving lessons, this video answered why I kept jerking while moving away in traffic. I have driven auto cars for 13 years but I felt disappointed when I couldn't fix my manual driving stalling problems. I realize now that my instructor needs to learn from you that the best practice is to lift your foot when getting to the biting point, combined with a few gas pedals, especially for people with a short foot like me.

My first driving test attempt went awfully wrong because I was afraid of stalling and also keeping the car slow. After watching a couple of your videos it's like a a hidden switch was activated in me. My second attempt the examiner said that was her best drive of the day. oh my god. With 20 years of AT experience. I'd never thought it could be this easy. I was never taught how to drive MT. Even with a good concept of how a clutch works, I wouldn't say I managed to ever pull out of the driveway without a stall. But after watching two of your videos Richard, I was able to drive to the supermarket and back, even with red light stops. Without hiccups or being horned at! My first MT real life driving was a success! I must say your videos, (especially the part on clear explanation of the bite and the ECU) has literally taught me how to drive an MT in practice! They completed the lost puzzle piece for me! Thank you for your knowledge and perfect teaching!

You are an excellent driving instructor. I learnt to drive 40 years ago and my overwhelming feeling was I needed the precise/muscle memory learning that you are implementing. From my own experience & through conversations with friends, I’ve come to the conclusion that most driving instructors talk too much while the learner is manoeuvring through traffic. What you are teaching is exactly the way driving should be taught!! Shockingly I’m learning new things in your videos after 40 years of driving! 😬

About 2 minutes into me using clutch only I told him I felt uneasy about having to devide my attention he just said "it's safe here otherwise I wouldn't have said to do it here" I never told him but I could have done more on it to feel " I got it" but rather I lied so we can move off. Not ideal but having you heard advise just that, no traffic etc I will be sure to be more assertive next time I propose a practice. Thanks as always for looking out for us driving newbies!

i got good at clutch when i realized the 3 stages of engine readiness that the clutch controls and use the rev needle to know exactly when im on the bite. seeing it wake up at 1 quarter clutch, and spot the 100 rev drop at half clutch. its helped me move off perfectly hills or no and gear shift with immaculate precision. i don't need to look any more but your the first person ever to mention this. as for 2mph i gave yup using the speedo they seem to lag at that speed. much easier to just look my surroundings and hold a slow walking or crawling speed

Had the option of driving an automatic gear car (but being forbidden to drive a manual one after passing the exam) and doing the exam with an automatic. Kinda like learning command line for the computer OS: steep learning curve but great knowledge dividends.

This was very helpful! By the time i start driving I want to learn how to drive a manual as soon as I can. Even though many cars here in the US are automatic, it is still a very useful skill to have.

i live in california where it is super rare to own manual cars, but both of my parents do. i'm currently 15 and learning how to drive. none of my peers are learning on manuals, and we can't find any manual driving lessons. i had my first driving lesson on an automatic and it went well, but i have been struggling gaining confidence behind the wheel in my mom's car. i can drive around residential areas well, but often stall at stop signs when there are cars around me (because they make me nervous). im glad to have seen your video because i will now work on my muscle memory and finding the "sweet spot" of the clutch :) hopefully i can get more confidendce and soon be able to drive myself to school and dance to get my driving hours in i get that manual is fun for a lot of people, but boy am i jealous of my peers who have automatic cars

As a new driver who passed today for the first time here are some tips for learners; 1. No matter what the officer says or does remember your training (still rember though that officer is in charge) 2. Don't rely only on your lessons, use your off time. 3. Have a support system (I prayed and put my trust in God and relied on my family) 4. Don't tell the entire world cos that makes you feel like you need to impress people which completely defies your support system. 5. Do not be afraid to ask if your not sure what to do on your test. 6. After every lesson sit down and make notes of everything that to you can remember. 7. Be fully dedicated to driving. Use your resources: -watch videos -ask questions -seek advice -read books -download pdfs -go to the necessary extents 8. Learn to understand how your body works when it comes to stress and find the proper management techniques. (reading Bible quotes, praying and knowing that I was prepared was all I needed.) 9. Try not driving when traffic is hectic. 10. Your first impression dictates the likeness the officer has in you but make sure that you dress comfortably. 11. Again do not allow the officer to presurise you. Just breathe, pray and remember your training. If you need any more advise please feel free to respond. I am more than happy to help. God bless❤

Which country because in South Africa you need money urgently to pass a driving test?
@bradsmusic09
@bradsmusic09 Жыл бұрын
@@rubiksworld2170 It sounds like you're not from South Africa because in South Africa the driving instructors don't talk about the bite point, only experienced drivers do.. So I'd say if you have the option then don't worry about finding the bite point. Rather focus on Slowly releasing the clutch to the point where the car drops (essentially this is the bite point) and then continue to move off. Changing gears is a slightly different story though since you need to move quicker so that you're not marked as coaching or riding the clutch. That being said I would advise you to speed up slightly, gear up, then release the clutch almost halfway (quicker than clutch control but not too fast), You should have felt the bite point ever so slightly Now you can remove your foot off the clutch. If you can, practice your clutch control even if you're just doing it in your driveway or garage... Etc. Hope that helps.

Fantastic video! Yours was the only one that actually helped me! Have been able to get going. Got a couple of drives in before finishing the video and you’re right in the last segment! I was at first only good at going into gear with no gas. But quickly realized that this way is very slow at green lights and steep hills you’ll just roll back. Going to watch the next couple of sets! This is very helpful! I'm currently doing driving lessons in a diesel, which doesnt need much gas when driving away. After passing the exam, I'll be driving gasoline car and already heard so much about the difference and people having the car switch off at traffic lights cause they are confused about the half clutch/bite point and amount of gas they need to give. It makes me worried too but watching this, it makes total sense! And once I have my car, I'll be practising this for sure so I wont look like a doozey at traffic lights 😂😂

2 tips I got when learning 17yrs ago that always come in handy 1. Take your time to “feel” any car the 1st time you drive it and you’ll almost always be alright :) eg in the rental parking lot there’s no rush - start and stop a few times - you’ll immediately feel whether the car has a higher/lower biting point and whether you need more gas to set off. 2. Note AC & weight- when you load up the car you can need a lot more right pedal to set off, especially low powered engines with AC on full blast and a fully loaded car. It explains some of the tourist struggles you see putting less than confident driver’s off driving in Italy and the likes 😝 many are used to driving their car light in cool climates - AC draws a lot of power from the engine as it charges up the first time on a hot day Give yourself time to adjust and HAVE FUN with manuals

@@Pkari I'll be driving the Mazda 3 with a 2.0 with the 150pk motor so not a light motor per say. Dad n me took her for a test drive today and she's smooth but eager to drive. The biting point is a bit lower than his car but shifting thru the gears is similar than the Mini Cooper diesel I'm driving during the lessons. I'm planning to have it driven to a quiet place so I can experiment with the pedals, biting point, gears and breaks ect. before I hit the roads. This video does help me to visualize it but gotta experience it with the Mazda. The Mini Cooper has some power in it so am used to a spunky car 😂 I also drive more spunk than my dad, but a first car is always different.

@@nathaliebrinkman4607 Nice :-D Mazda really get the manual transmission right - huge part of the reason we love MX5s. I personally love a low biting point - my dad always set them low rally style and that's how I learned, but nowadays biting points aren't adjusted like back in the day. 150ps motor for that light car is good enough to almost never be bothered too much by a charging A/C or fully loaded car. Relax and have fun with it - it'll be easy enough to pick up right after you pass your test :)

@@jenkathefridge3933 agree. The more you practise, the better you will be. Mostly I see people having difficulties on how to start manual on an uphill. The only tip here is to hold the clutch at the bitting point whilst holding brake. Then when you life your foot from the brake and press gas instantly, more than you would normally do.. this should let you go off
