A superb first effort to create a unique tutorial of the Yamaha DX7 synthesizer. I hope that there are soon many more to follow . . .

Hi Paul. Thank your for you kind words. I wasn't sure about the topic and my accent.... English is a second language for me so hopefully it isn't too bad. I was thinking a lot about what I wanted to do with tutorials and I thought it would be great if I can take my audiences to a journey of learning the DX7 and FM synthesis from beginning like I did, but minus many months of struggles and failed patches!!!!! Cheers, Power DX7.

Power DX7 I thought you did well with speaking in a second language! I can only speak English!

Thank you. English is such a difficult language to master!!!!!!

Thanks for your comment, and glad that you like my accent. English is my second language, and it's a very difficult to learn too!!! I'm working on more tutorials, so stay tuned!! Cheers, Power DX7.

You're welcome ! No problem, languages & accents aren't that easy to catch... but you were fully understandable, so ;-)) But probably easier than explaining FM synthesis in a simple, easy to understand ...way ... such as yours ! ;-)) Take care ! ;-))

Thank you. I'm really pleased with positive feedback that I'm getting. This is the first one and very basic one but I'm happy that people found this tutorial very useful. I will be posting more with a similar style, easy to understand tutorial!!! Cheers, Power DX7.

Wow. A Tutorial which comes from someone who can create such marvelous sounds with the DX7. The approach you take is superb as it provides an intuitive access to the DX7's possibilities. I'm eagerly waiting for the next episode! And You have a nice accent ;).

Thank you very much for your positive comment. My intention is to create tutorials from the very beginning of the FM synthesis learning journey. You don't really see FM synthesis tutorials focusing on algorithms, so I decided to start from that. Learning the FM synthesis is not an easy task, so the best approach is the "Slow and Steady' approach. You learn the FM synthesis step by step, no short cuts, but patience and persistence to learn it from ground up!!! And I'm glad that you like my accent!!! I just uploaded the second tutorial and I hope you enjoy watching and learning too. Cheers, Power DX7.

Power DX7 thank you very much. Your channel is the first one that I switched the notifications on so I don't miss the next video. I'm technically savy but FM synthesis is still hard to get an intuitive grasp of which is necessary to create sounds. But with your approach it should be possible. I will check out the new video when I'm home with my dx7 ;-)

Thank you. I can understand how people feel about the DX7 and FM synthesis in general. It's counterintuitive and the DX7 interface is not as easy to use as analog synths (you just tweet nobs!!!). What I'm planning to do with my FM synthesis tutorial is to provide an alternative way to approach the DX7 and FM synthesis, a systematic, yet hands-on approach that gets you results that you want. Cheers, Power DX7.

Thanks. I spent a lot of time thinking and planning. It became clear to me that it would be great to take my viewers and subscribers to my journey or learning the FM synthesis and the DX7 from the beginning. So I started with Algorithm which is I think the most critical and difficult part of learning the FM synthesis. Starting from this and we can expand our learning gradually.......
@CRITTERBUSTERS8 жыл бұрын
Indeed, One thing I've never been entirely sure about is how to follow the algorithms, I usually start counting the boxes above the carriers so for example let's say the carriers are 1 and 3 I leave those alone and just start going 2, 4, 5, 6 in that order, but sometimes I decide to go in different orders and I get different results, this is something I'd like to know more about.

Thanks for your input. Further explanation of algorithms will be included into my future tutorial as part of FM sound design and improvement. I found the best way to learn about algorithm is to use those factory patches as an example. I will be covering in more detail about algorithm and its interchangeability. Stay tuned, cheers, Power DX7.

Thank you for supporting my channel. Learning the FM synthesis using the DX7 interface is not easy, as I've learnt in a hard way for many months back in 1986. So I'm hoping to make easier for people to learn the DX7. Cheers, Power DX7.

How did i learn to program a DX7? just kept pressing buttons and moving the data entry slider until i heard a sound change ha ha.
@monsterjazzlicks8 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with that! I think most people do that when they first buy something.
@powerdx73838 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the learning curve for the DX7 was a huge for me back in 1986, and still the same for many people in this world. I hope to introduce the FM synthesis in a more practical and structured way so that you have a better learning outcome. That's my goal.......

How do you connect your DX7 to soundsystem? If I don't have the right speakers, I'm trying to conenct to my DAW which is ableton. I have a iRig midi, but there's no sound.
