How to leave Haneda Airport to Tokyo during a flight layover using Japan's Monorail System

We had a 7 hour layover and exited Haneda airport to travel to the city centre on Halloween day.
We purchased a Suica card which is Japan's version of a Canadian Presto card. This card allows you to travel on Japanese railways such as Monorail and JR line. The Monorail system ends at Hamamatsucho Station where you can transfer to other railway lines.
We visit Tokyo and Shimbashi Station before heading back to Haneda to catch our connecting flight to Bangkok, Thailand

As Canadians did you need any sort of Visa to leave the airport?

As a Canadian you don't require a visa to leave but you do need to check out of immigration.

The airline transfers your luggage to your connecting flight. We never checked out our luggage
