Thanks for the awesome demonstration. I just got 2002 honda shadow vlx 600 with 10k miles. Planning on going through all the maintenance steps. And as you said CHEAP way. To put bike on stand... Thats my main goal. I already have jack stand and 2ton jack and strips.. Confidentially

how'd this work out after the 8th or 9th time? metal backing plates at your anchor points would help, a metal trim skirting the perimeter would beef it up a little. I welded a stand together using scrap pieces of angle iron and 2" pipe.

when you jack it up the first time is the weight on the kickstand or are you holding the bike with one hand and jacking the bike with the other hand just trying to understand the process from car jack to first jack stand thanks

How did you get it on the jack stands? You did not show that action..

Open up the drums and clean the shoes really well with brake cleaner. Verify that the shoes are not work out, else replace with new ones. Take it easy on bikes with front drum breaks and don't go so fast; they don't stop as good as disk breaks. You can also try to replace the forks and brakes to disk with similar sized and similar brand bike from years after.

Not gonna lie If you didn’t already have all those tools and materials it’s just cheaper to buy $100 bike lift from harbor freight

Doesn't seem too sturdy, also after all the money you spent you could just buy a bike jack for $60 from harbor freight

+Biagiorph The jacks that I've seen at Harbor Freight won't work for the VLX because it has uneven bars on the bottom of the frame.

Also they won't work on Honda 1100 shadows without added supports because of the same uneven frame tubes coupled with the fact that the engine hangs down below the frame tubes.
