Thanks for the info and demonstration. Is the container you suggest air tight, or one that allows air circulation? Our ice cream pails are plastic w a lid that seals.
@diyhomeandgardening2 жыл бұрын
It’s in an air tight container. Using newspaper or wood shavings help regulate the moisture content and aid with insulating around the corms.

I store in a cardboard box not in plastic as condensation can build up and cause corms to rot. Also I dust corms with flowers of sulphur to prevent rot.
@diyhomeandgardening2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, Thanks for the message and added information about Sulphur dust. Particularly useful on more fleshy corms or tubers. So long as the corms are dried sufficiently and you add a moisture absorbent packaging material then condensation shouldn’t be a problem. Given the availability then cardboard is a better option for dryer storage conditions. As my shed can get damp then plastic tends to fair better. Enjoy your winter garden preparations 🌼

Can I keep them in my shed , I am in south wales
@diyhomeandgardening Жыл бұрын
H Wendy. Thanks for watching and your message. Yes, absolutely fine to keep them in your shed, and that is what I do. In a container wrapped in newspaper or something similar to absorb and regulate moisture. All the best 🌸

You did not say where to store the container,how cold can it get?
@diyhomeandgardening2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for watching and your message. So long as the bulbs are kept in a cool but frost free environment they are fine. Somewhere like a garage or shed is ideal. 🌺

don't you give them a dip in a solution of weevil and drying them to make sure that the bugs or eggs have been dealt with?
@diyhomeandgardening Жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for watching and your message. I don’t use anything to treat the corms as once the corms are out of the compost and free of all foliage then there is very little risk of pest damage. In storage the biggest risk is actually from things like mice. Vineweevil themselves, as a hard shelled adult only feed on leaf matter. The grubs predominantly feed on root matter or bulbs but they are only present for a short period of time and in containers when the plant has been growing for an extended period of time of around a year. Hope this helps you. All the best with your gardening 🌸

I think you will find vene weevil grubs eat the tuber
@diyhomeandgardening Жыл бұрын
@@lawrencemcnally3164 only when the corms are in soil. If you are lifting the corms, checking them for damage, and then storing in a dry condition then you won’t have any issues. All the best for how you store your Begonia corms
