How to Line Up Students

Elementary art teachers tips on how to wrap up elementary/ primary art class and move students from their seats into line order. Bonus- how to keep students quiet in line while waiting for the classroom teacher! This routine works well in my elementary art room but could also be successful in other specials classes such as music, computer lab, STEAM/STEM, etc.

These videos have been so helpful! I was curious if you ever change the students’ seats and how that works with the student numbering system? I really like the system you have and am thinking of trying it, but I’m worried that I might have to make a seat change at some point and that it will throw everything off.

I print out enough sheets for one quarter at a time. There are 30 labels on a page so I have extras for a new student or if I change a seat number (or a student starts over) If I change their seat I can just scratch out their number and write the real # on top. I change it in my computer so, it prints out correctly the next time.

Thank you! Sorry that I wasn’t clear. The student who is it looks at the line after the teacher tells them how to freeze and picks the quietest student. Who they pick becomes it next. It’s basically a quiet contest but with fun poses 🙂

Pose like a bat, Mona Lisa, someone playing tennis, playing piano, eating ice cream, flying a kite, feeling sad, pretty much anything goes! I do lots of art things- weaving, sewing, painting, etc. animals, sports, dances- hula, limbo, flossing, disco, etc. and seasonal things like raking leaves, putting on sunblock, blowing out birthday candles, swimming, etc…. I hope that helps clarify 😀

I am loving your videos!! Where did you get the zones posters? Also, did you buy the brushes in bulk? Do you collect them at any point or do they keep one golden brush per class that’s a lot of gold spray paint.🤪

The zones poster are just the words printed on paint chip computer paper from Creative Teaching Press www.amazon.com/Creative-Teaching-Press-Painted-Palette/dp/B01DWTZSJI/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8. I buy the gold/silver brushes from Lowes. They are just the cheapest wooden ones. They return the brushes each week and have to earn them again. I’ll definitely do a video on the class reward system I use. It works well and is really easy for me as a teacher.
