I really enjoyed this, I am a brit living in Sweden for the last six years, I have recently bought a Beneteau and keep it a little South in Västervik, it rarely gets ice but it is possible so I began looking for tips and advice when I found your channel. I am also renovating my old 10 metre steel motor boat which I plan to move back up to Stockholm as a sort of floating apartment, in there I have room for a kamin, I have a husqvarna 153 that will do the job perfectly, unfortunately there is no such possibility to do this in the Sailing boat but it would of been nice, I do however have electricity and nice warm shower and laundry machines in the harbour office only twenty metres away. I will now avidly check out your other videos. Stay warm Linda!

Thank you! We havent seen snow yet here in Stockholm area. I have put so much thought in the language question. I want to do videos in English because I love the international feeling, I can reach and communicate with people all around the world. And I want to do videos in Swedish because I am Swedish and for most people it is easier to understand instructions in their own language. To help both sides a little I have subtitles in both languages in all videos. And for that I also got cred from a deaf guy .

We get ice storms at least once/winter - and sometimes as often as 3-4 times - been doing that as long as I remember - which is over 60 years. Spring, summer, fall and winter. It's not climate change you're seeing - it's a change in the circulation. There are a number of patterns that happen on a regular basis. Some every 10 years, some every 30, etc. I'm using those numbers as an example - like La Nina and El Nino. Not climate change. Regular, normal circulation patterns we've known about for a very long time.

There is no doubt anymore that there is a global warming due to our way of life. But those patterns you are talking about also exist. And it is of course impossible to know exactly what is causeng what.

Thank you!! It is a Targa 96, built in Finland 1977. 9.60 x 3.01. It is a great boat it most ways. It has an aft cabin, that was great when I sailed with my kids. But if you want to live on the boat yourself, in cold weather, you can only use that space as storage, since it is only accessible from the cockpit. Good luck finding the best boat for you!

Hej Linda! Inspirerande video.
@LindaLindenauSailing
@LindaLindenauSailing Жыл бұрын

Hi Linda I was just watching your show where you are living aboard during the winter, I noticed that you were using or I should say "re using" clear plastic juggs, now I am all for recycling and reusing when permitted and when its safe but in this case you must be very very careful because most juggs that are sold for single use (clear most off all) actually break down and mix with the good water that you are using, there are spiceal marks that mean certian things on the bottom of all plastic containers now i dont know all the meanings of these but im sure you can look these up to see if its safe or not, i do know that many people have gotton very very sick from doing ecactly what it is you are, please look into this because i would hate to see you get sick. thank you and i enjoy your show

@LindaLindenauSailing
@LindaLindenauSailing 3 жыл бұрын
@syATLA
@syATLA 3 жыл бұрын

Hi Linda! Nice video. Thanks for sharing this with us. I have a question if you don't mind. How do you manage do empty your holding tanks, since the boat cannot go to the pump station? Har en bra dag!
@LindaLindenauSailing
@LindaLindenauSailing 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! In this marina, there is a toilet. And the water was frozen around 3-4 weeks. And my holding tank is over 100 liters, I custom made it as big as I could fit, since when I have courses, we are five people onboard. There is a guy here with a huge ship, he even rents out cabins. He orders a sludge suction truck. That might be a solution if you are many who can share. And their hose is very long...

@LindaLindenauSailing
@LindaLindenauSailing 3 жыл бұрын
Please excuse me for the late answer! I had a tarp from the mast and backwards. But some other boats here, built a wooden construction, that they put a tarp over, so it held almost tight against the hull. I beleive that saves lots of electricity :) Next year I will do like that.

Hej!
@LindaLindenauSailing
@LindaLindenauSailing 3 жыл бұрын

The "some kind of storage room" is a "chain locker" where the chain for the anchor go's through the fitting on/from the outside deck into it , there should be a triangular piece of wood with a hole in the middle of it that slots in and fits over this space

Who in the world would want to listen to a pump doing that? Drove me nuts in less than 30 seconds. Some sailors say hull in ice is not a problem, others work hard to keep ice from hull. From your knowledge, why care if ice is against the hull?
@LindaLindenauSailing
@LindaLindenauSailing 3 жыл бұрын
I didnt hear the pump from inside, thats why I had to go out to check. The ice is not a problem if it doesnt move. I have had the boat in ice in a narrow strait, several years. But here, there are ferries outside, and the swell goes in under and breaks the ice into sharp and heavy pieces, that bounces and chafe the hull.
@artofdisguy3401
@artofdisguy3401 3 жыл бұрын
The on going discussion of ice and boats,, well from an experienced boat builder and maintenance guy... Two variables come into play, 1) flow of water, if you have a current then your going to do more work the ice will break and rub, this happens with other winter boat traffic as well but a little diligence just clearing the shards away. 2) would be lake locked or lagoon locked where no boat traffic, no or little water flow or disturbance, this instance a boat can be locked in ice all winter providing the ice shifts very little. Personally I prefer bubblers installed around boats it certainly reduces the risks
@Nerd3927
@Nerd3927 3 жыл бұрын
I am very concerned with the ice. Don't more up for winter on the lee shore of a lake. The ice can cove your boat completely when the frost period ends and the wind picks up.
