I got a trifold ramp from harbor freight. They came with small chains that I wrap around my tailgate cable. Probably not the most secure, but it works lol. Also if you don't have a bed extender and have a 6 and a half foot bed, take the cables loose on your tailgate, lift it and wrap the cables around the part the tailgate latches to and reattach them. The tailgate will be partially up and worst case it could prevent it from sliding out of the bed. Sorry for the long comment just sharing my experience lol

I bought a certified 2017 Tacoma sport double cab with long bed because it's a work truck. Previous owner had a 2" lift kit on it and I didn't realize it at first. I had the dealer remove it for free because it wasn't disclosed in the contract. It made loading the truck with tools, motorcycles, everything a lot more difficult and I'm 6'1". I prefer function over form, but that's just me. One other tip... Make sure you tie down all those strap ends tight and make sure none can flap around in wind and touch the bike. A flapping strap in the wind makes a perfect paint and chrome remover.

I have used most of the recommendations here and all are good. However, since I usually loaded my bike alone, I ended up buying two sets of ramps and set up 3 of them so I could straddle the bike and have a ramp on either side so I could have a foot on either side for balance. Also, all my ramps are arched because most of my motorcycles had low ground clearance. I always tied all three to the bumper of my truck to keep them from sliding backwards. Later on, I bought a 3 sectioned wide ramp that could be bolted together or each section used separately. Then I got a 5x8 utility trailer that simplified everything. I also use it to load my 2 ATVs. I hook up the trailer to the truck, use two single arched ramps from the truck bed to the trailer bed to load one ATV into the trailer, and then load the other ATV into the trailer. One thing not mentioned here that I would recommend. Be sure, when buying a set of ramps, that they are capable to withstand the weight of whatever you intend to load. Some may claim to withstand 1,000 lbs., but they actually mean that each ramp withstands 500 lbs. each. A friend of mine learned that the hard way.
@kurtinfl
@kurtinfl 3 жыл бұрын
In addition to the front straps I prefer to use 2 straps at the rear, one on each side connecting between the frame/passenger peg area and tie down points to the side, to prevent the rear of the bike from moving side to side. These should also prevent it from sliding backwards if the tie downs are even with or in front of where the straps are attached to the bike.

It took 5 of us to get my sportster 1200 out of the bed of my F250. Had to use two ramps. I put a jack stand under the end of the first ramp, then added a second one to the end of that to make an extra long ramp. The angle was just way too steep for one ramp. SUPER sketchy, but we got it down!

Save yourself the headache. Go to harbor freight spend $60 and get the wheel chock. I split my ramps apart more bigger harleys need more space and I use 2 straps per trailer to keep them from sliding on the tailgate trim. I also use a jack stand on the motorcycle ramp at the pivot point OCD the hinge will fail with my 25k bike on it!

I was by myself and it was an injured vet who sold it to me so I had to lift the bike as a whole onto the bed of my truck. that small bike didn't look heavy until I picked it up and baby stepped it into the tailgate XD my back felt like crap after words. also fun note I backed my truck up to my 06 impala and drove the bike across the hood of the impala to get it down to the ground haha.

If you hopefully have two people helping the person load the bike, you ride the bike up the ramp at a decent speed (5mph-ish) and the people helping keep hands close to the tank and rear fender. If the rider falls either way, the helper can push it back.. many many many ways to do this. Most of it is practice just like anything.. but fender and tank is where hands should be as a helper guiding a bike in in to a truck.

We took my ole 94 buick park ave n took everything out the trunk.picked his front end up(10 over wide glide hooked to a knuckle frame with a panhead). He had a big 15(16?) Inch tire on it.we strapped his forks to my trunk hinge brackets and drove 35 to 45 mph back to balt. It fell over 2 blocks from my garage. We got out straightened it up n made it to the garage.
