As someone who has loaded more than his fair share of off road trucks, I think you’re spot on! I find some people load the front first and some load the back first. I usually like to load the back to make my “tailgate” first, but everybody has their way of doing it. I completely agree that the way you set the trucks up in relation to the excavator is key for production. It’s always really fun when it gets a little wet and sloppy out and you have to give them a little push to get going…

While loading rock, it’s a good idea to put a cushion of dirt or crushed rock in the truck before loading a Boulder. Also keeps the driver from going to the moon 😆

You know I drove a haul truck for a while and when operators dump the load hard it freaking hurts. The truck may be able to take a beating but the driver doesn't deserve that. I run a hoe now and load haul trucks. It doesn't take me any extra time to load softer. The drivers thank you for it. Their backs feel much better!

100%. Guys who dump their bucket from 10' are just inconsiderate. That's why I love the concept of working your way up through the ranks rather than jumping right in the seat of an excavator or dozer. Once you've been the person in the haul truck you understand that aspect of the job and you are more aware of how you are impacting others on the job.

Why dont you build up the excavator while waiting for the dump truck? Like what you were just doing, pile it up behind you and then track over it. I usually build myself up a little with the material for more optimal loading height.

If there is adiquit time it is the preferred way of doing it.

There wasn't enough material to justify building up another level to put myself at optimal loading level. By the time I built my pile and loaded a couple trucks I would be coming off the pile to bench it back down. Instead I opted to split the different and give myself a longer pile to load from while still gaining some height advantage. If we had the material to justify going up more I absolutely would've built the pile up.

Was there a particular reason you didn't have the truck back down to you?
@DieselandIron

It would've taken more time to have the truck back down to the hoe vs. staying up on the haul road where he could do his circuit quicker. It might've saved a tiny amount of time on loading the truck but we would've added 30 seconds to a minute and a half waiting on the driver to back down the road.

It was a decent machine. I would say of all the machines I've run, this one was probably middle of the road as far as power and comfort goes. The swing speed was a little slow and the power wasn't quite where I wanted it to be.

Bryan can Carson sue the guy that rented the trucks to him since they kept breaking down?
@DieselandIron
@DieselandIron 3 жыл бұрын
I suppose if he really wanted to go after the guy he could make a run at it. I doubt anything would hold up in court though. At the end of the day Carson knew the guy had old, tired trucks. You can't really fault them for going down.
