Back in sunny Sicily, I am busy sweeping up red desert sand and black volcanic ash everywhere. Last week I did London, Paris and Milan. It was not shorts weather, so wore blue and lilac jeans. They are now washed and pressed and put away for autumn. The three silk shirts I packed were great to wear, and I have survived ironing them. Today I have worn cotton shorts in pale lilac, with a pale green linen jersey tank top and matching shirt knotted at the front (it gets breezy on the bike). Linen jersey solves the problem of creases! Aaaanyway. I did people watch in Paris. It’s so easy to tell the locals from the tourists. They do have amazing style. I met a Parisian friend and she complimented me on my outfit: jeans, white silk shirt with a frill at the neck and frills at the wrists, with a dark navy velvet blazer. She wore the same, although her blazer was black. I was in seventh heaven 😅

If you have a rectangular shape, sometimes men's shorts are best. Sometimes you have to hem them or buy vintage (non-utility) shorts.

I bought a little personal fan that is rechargeable from Amazon. I’ve found that it keeps my face from melting in the heat. My grandmother used to always carry a folding fan in her purse. It does help!

Congratulations on 100,000 subscribers! I know the older I have gotten the more I pay attention to fabric. If it’s polyester it’s not coming in my closet. I think the pajamas I’m wearing are polyester. But I don’t go outside in them. Especially if it’s hot. I’m a cotton or linen person. I like the gauze shirts too. They are comfortable. We moved to Georgia three years ago from Ohio. And it gets hot and humid here. I was used to the humidity in Ohio. But it seems to get much hotter here. Which is fine with me. I hated the cold, so did my husband. So I finally talked him into moving. Plus, most of my grandkids live here. I bought some dresses to wear when it gets hot. They’re just little thin dresses. I’m not sure I’m going to wear a slip. I just won’t go out in public. I bought three of them to try. I bought a new straw bag this year. I already had one from last year. It was bigger. And I find I like smaller bags better. I wore my white jeans to my granddaughter’s graduation. And it had rained, and we had to sit on dirty bleachers. So I’m going to have to scrub them some to get them cleaner. They were comfortable and are kind of thin. So I maybe able to wear them this summer. If we’re going to be inside with the air blasting.

I would LOVE if you did a video on how to dress for the office in Florida when you need to wear closed shoes. We have a dressy casual dress code. I personally don't wear heels. I usually wear booties, flats and loafers. I mainly own black pants, a few khaki and some patterned with black. Help...lol

White bottoms are essential! I wear my white skirts and dresses, and a few white shorts and trousers, more than any other color in summer. I feel overheated myself just looking at all those sweaty, grumpy people wearing tight jeans or black polyester gym clothes. I don’t know how they can stand it. My white cotton and linen skirts are my most-worn summer items, they look great with any top.

When I was working, I could wear polyester to work in summer (with cardigan or jacket to ward off AC). I am retired now, no longer wear polyester. I stick to cotton, linen, rayon tops bottoms dresses. Summertime inside the house is hotter than outside. To save electricity I wear the most airy and sweat absorbing fabric as much as possible.

I agree with all of your suggestions but one: polyester shorts, hell no!! Shorts last a long time longer than tops so investing in the highest quality is economical sound in the end - and I'm not even talking about how sweaty it gets with polyester as shorts are very close to the skin😓

I have a Ikat Target dress (love the fabric print) that's 100% poly... and god, it feels awful in the summer (and yea, spaghetti straps and flowy but the elastic at waist get cloying... usually can't wait to get it off!) Love Rails styling... but everything seen always seem to be hand wash.

When I was younger, in the 80s, silky tops had to be worn with silky skirts, a tee with a denim skirt, etc. I remember when I first wore a white cotton t-shirt (a nice one) with a silky skirt, it was very daring. Then, I wore a beautiful two-toned pink brocade-pattern silky tee with my pink linen suit to the office, even more daring. This is the biggest change I’ve seen in fashion in my lifetime, mixing formal and informal items, different textures, etc. I love it. The other, smaller changes are cyclical, like the pleated midi skirt, flared jeans and the polo top, I wore all these when they were trending in the past. We have seen a big change in silhouette these past five years, though, I’m so glad that the long top over skinnies/leggings silhouette has been replaced by wider, looser bottoms and slimmer, shorter tops, it’s so much more flattering.

I wanted a white Rails shirt so bad , but things came up like my husband’s knee replacement and vet bill etc. but I found a Kohls white shirt thrifting that was new . I looked it up and it came from the teen department. It feels so good and I swear it looks like a Rails top. Now, I won’t find the blue shirt . I have been totally disappointed when I ordered something from Amazon and it said cotton and it was not..not making that mistake again. I love linen..wore a white linen skirt to Mass today and a straw bag. Of course I did wear a top and a jacket too. 😂I quit worrying about whether linen wrinkles. Hi Anna! Thanks for the tips to beat the heat. The natural fabric tops are the ones that help keep me cool, and you’re right about polyester in some shorts and pants, I think as long as they are a little looser and flowy, then that is okay.

One exception is the Chico's line of Traveler separates. They are made from acetate (made from wood chips, biodegradable) but feel very airy and light on the skin.

The same veronica beard blouse you're wearing is made by Lauren ralph lauren and is on sale for 34 from 99 at Dillard's but only petite is left in a tan color... blue is better but tan is close second..I guess. The bottom is slightly rounded vs the straight hem that is Veronica beard

I miss wearing sunglasses. I can’t wear them since I wear a prescription eyewear which turns dark when I’m outside and light when I’m inside. I wish I had an alternative!

Yes, Transitions glasses. I just turned them down for regular prescription sunglasses instead. For those considering Transitions, don't do it if you drive much. They don't get very dark in a car because modern cars have tinted windshields. So, your eyes aren't very protected from UV rays.

U can custom sunglasses made in ur prescription number from any eye wear shop. Will cost u a bit more though.
