Oludamini Ogunnaike and Feraidoon Mojadedi participate in an illuminating conversation on the distinctive capacity of poetry to communicate metaphysical truths and speak to our hearts. The conversation is inspired by Ogunnaike's "The Logic of the Birds, published in Renovatio: renovatio.zaytuna.edu/article... (renovatio.zaytuna.edu/article...)
Oludamini Ogunnaike, an assistant professor of religious studies at the University of Virginia, studies and writes on Islam, Islamic philosophy, spirituality, art, and African diasporic religions, as well as on philosophical aspects of postcolonial theory.
Feraidoon Mojadedi of Zaytuna College speaks on and teaches Persian and Urdu poetry, especially by Rumi, a calling that has taken him across the United States, the UK, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, Germany and even in Konya, Turkey, where Mawlana Rumi is laid to rest.

What a beautiful discourse so knowledgable of bringing our great poets to us. Reply appreciate specially as you connect it with the Quran and faith or there is no meaning in the masnavii. 👍👍👍

MashaAllah. Lovely explanations. 🌹 (Always thought that too: “If you have poetry, you don’t need drugs”--rather, you’re high on Life, no matter what, SubhanAllah🌴 “Everything has meaning…..time will destroy form.” Alhumdullilah “People look at the form, not the meaning, not the inward beauty” so true. Such a refreshing discourse. “As long as you run to Allah” no matter what. Alhumdullilah 😊 (The inner doors open first back to Love/Allah). “When you fall in love with Allah, that doesn’t expire…active Love.” Wow, so true-Allah Who teaches us how to love truly.❤️ “If you see a bird reflecting itself on a window,….it can help guide you.” …..leading back to God Almighty’s Love. “Love is not just reducible to obedience…..” Inspired again. 😊 (MashaAllah-“None of these poets are trying to be bestsellers” Alhumdullilah 😊🌹 May Allah keep blessing our inspired brothers and fellow lovers of Allah and His Beloved. Peace be upon all of Allah’s Beloved Prophets.

Where can I find a list of the best translated Islamic poetry books please? I have Rumi poetry books but have been told they're not authentic translations.

I find I can read Coleman Barks and Helminski with relative ease and parse through any questionable phrases as long as I remember that Rumi is a Muslim, first and foremost, and his devotion to Islam precedes his devotion to poetry.

Asalaam Alaikum Masha Allah, it was an intense and gripping conversation that flowed and ebbed like poetry itself. Another beautiful thing which added to this occasion was the decorated set. The flowers indeed did lend their bloom to the Zaytuna. Perhaps it is just a renovatio.

sure, but what makes it a tourist attraction in the first place? is it not because its beauty is a symbol of love?
