In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

Thank you for giving this information it help about you explaining about the color line showing while fish is sitting still. That really confused me why it just showing straight lines and not showing arches, so that explains everything because when sitting still well show a line but moving showing a arch.

I like the videos, very informational. but there is one thing you should add. With the range on the 2D scan, I like to set mine to show underneath the bottom. you will get whats called a "second echo" which makes it very easy to distinguish hard bottom from soft bottom. the darker and thicker the second echo, the more hard bottom there is. even if you dont get a second echo, being able to see below the bottom line will help find hard bottom, the thicker and darker colored the band is, the harder the bottom. fish love hard bottom in the winter.

The sonar goes from right to left. How do you determine how far the fish is from the boat. Like is sonar just straight down or is it 10ft to the left 10 ft to the right? I'm just not sure how to determine where the fish is when I see it on the screen. I know the depth of course just not how far from the boat like is it behind the boat to the left or to the right. How big is the jig your using? It can't be too small otherwise it won't show. But if it was big enough you can try increasing your sensitivity a little and make sure your surface clarity isn't too high

@@joelor6626 maybe. If it's showing them when out of the water then either the demo or simulator is activated. I would recommend doing a hard reset on it to restore everything to factory setting. Turn it off, press and hold the + and - buttons. Then press and release the power button. Hold the + and - till u hear a double chirp sound and release. This will fix your issue.

Hi, I have a hook reveal 9 tripleshot and problem whit sonar log. Was on the lake and loged the sonar. One file was 1,3Gb and so on. But if I wanted to view sonar log. Then it says, no data or corrupt file... What can it be. I think the structure was off. Can that be the problem? Thank's from Estonia

How do I know what area of the water the device is showing me?

It depends on what screen your using and your frequencies.The 2d sonar is showing a compressed cone shapped area directly under the transducer. The down scan is basically the same area except its a thin slice only 3 to 5 degrees thick that goes around 30 to 60 degrees left and right.

I've heard said that if you forget to turn off this unit before pulling your boat out of the water that this will "fry" your transducer. Is that true?

All transducers will overheat if activated out of the water, it won't damage them straight away (takes a while for them to heat up) but just remember to turn them off first

So, I took my boat out the other day after sitting in the garage for about a month since the last time I fished. I took the cover off the fishfinder and it was ON!! It had been on for a month! Now it seems to lose bottom all the time so I switched it to medium chirp. Works fine with that so I must have burned up its ability to high chirp? Anyway, always make sure your fish finders are off when in storage....

What setting do I have to change if I lose sonar when Im going 10mph and over? Is that an issue with my transducer placement? I installed it according to the manufacturer, but still lose readings after 10 mph.

Yes, most likely it has to do with your transducer alignment and placement. There is always the small chance that you could simply have a bad transducer, however if the image is nice and clear when it IS working, then its going to be the placement. What kind of boat do you have? Different boats can require different locations.

@@vikingslayer34 Try tilting the transducer down a degree or 2 so it shoots the beam ahead slightly, than try it. if you get some improvement but not enough tilt it down some more untill you're happy with it.

i have an off topic question for a hook 2 7 triple shot, how can i change out my sd card from navionics for a larger one and still keep using the navionics interface thats already expired two months ago...cuz it wont show me all the contours and sand bars for my region...oh its in south texas,,,thanks

If your asking if you can move the mapping data from your current navionics card to a SD card with more memory, you won't be able to. The mapping files and copywriten to that card specifically. If it's expired, then you would have to sign up for another year of service and update your current card that you have.

With that unit, I can't imagine that it would read much deeper than 300 meter. Even with the 50/200 transducer. It doesn't output enough power to go much deeper. It's only a 500w unit and that's a 600w transducer you are using.

If you have the 50/200 hair transducer with the 7 or 9 pin connector then I would recommend the Elite FS or HDS Live. Those with both output a full 600w and give you the deeper depth you are looking for. It also depends on where you are located. Pacific is much denser and harder to read deep water but the gulf or Atlantic is much easier. Especially the gulf. With a 600w display you should get to 1200-1500 ft. Tho in the Pacific I'd say your lucky to get much past 1000ft without a 1KW transducer.

If your seeing fish icons then you need to turn off the Fish ID menu. I believe I cover that in my sonar training part 2 video.

When you pull up your menu on the right side of the sonar screen, I believe you go to the More Options menu and it's at the very bottom.

In the main settings you will see a "sonar" tab. If u go into that you can set the type of transducer u have. If you put it on "unknown" for the transducer then it will give you all the frequency options shown in this video. If you set it to "trippleshot" then you will only be able to use high chirp or 200khz since the tripleshot transducer is only designed to use those frequencies.

It depends on your depth. Would have to go at least 20 to 30 meters deep, maybe more, before a fish could be that far to the side and show up on the screen. If you take the depth and multiply it by roughly 0.35. That will give you the diameter of the sonar beam.

@@eldukenumero1 it's just depends on the type of fish and the size if thier swim bladder as that is the part of the fish that reflects the signals. But they don't have to be large by any means to create an arch.

With my experience with the 2 units, they arw both fairly similiar but the cruise seems to be more focused on Navigation and the Hook Reveal is more focused on sonar.

@@nikosanagnostis honestly I would get the Hook Reveal instead. I was really impressed by the Reveal. I have pretty high standards for the capabilities of my displays but the Reveal was better than expected. The sonar and structure imaging is really clear. Significantly better than the Hook and Hook2.

It has some preloaded cmaps in it. There is an option to select navionics on it but you have to have a navionics card in it for that to work.

@@juliuslawrence6355 I would actually look at the Navionics+ card. It usually has more detail than the cmap for that type of display. You can go onto both website and look at the level of detail each card will give you. So check out Navionics.com and then look at gofreeshop.com.

@@eddieboswell6068 oh so your on your Pages screen. Ok well I would go into your settings, then go to System, then to Advanced, then Features, and look and see if Sonar is turned off. If it is, highlight it and turn it back on. If this doesn't work then turn off the display and I would make sure your transducer is plugged all the way in. There are 3 rubber rings on the plug. Make sure all 3 are pushed all the way into the back of the display. Then hold down the pages and power button to turn it on and wait for a double chirp sound. This is a soft reset. If none of this works then u will probably need to call Lowrance tech support cuz something is wrong with either the transducer or display.
