Using regular grease on those places where he showed other than zerk fittings will cause accumulation of of dust and dirt. Use graphite spray or "dry" silicone spray. Graphite will not accumulate dust or dirt. It is black and is practically impossible getting out of clothes. Spray with care. I prefer dry silicone spray. Dry silicone spray will not accumulate dust or dirt. It will not stain clothes.

Don't use wet grease on external parts that will get dirt on them. Use a dry lube like graphite.

I'm no expert by any means, but I think the zerk on your right front tire may be bad or at least clogged. When the grease is coming out around the fitting on the grease gun and not around the meeting point between the axle and the wheel hub that is usually indicative of a problem. Look at the difference between the way the grease acted when you did the left and right wheels. Good video though, I am servicing my XT1 in the morning and appreciate the knowledge you shared. Wouldn't have thought to jack up the front end, but now I will.
@MrV2u
@MrV2u Жыл бұрын
Yeah it had some problems going in. The zero fitting isn’t replaceable like on cars. It did take though so half went in and half came out but it definitely took, just wasted some grease. Thanks for looking out brother and thanks for the feedback.

BUY A CLIP ON ZERK FITTING NOZZLE.... The money you save by NOT wasting grease will pay for itself.... And, to keep your grease gun from "leaking" between uses, (THEY ALL DO), pull the charging handle OUT just a bit, 1/2" or so, to relieve the spring pressure from squeezing the grease out of the gun.... IT WORKS.... I also use a floor jack to keep the tractor weight off the parts for better grease "movement" in the bearing areas....

@@MrV2u P.S. IF you place the floor jack in the CENTER of the front axle crossbar, you will only need to "jack once". OH, that's BAAAAAD if you know what I mean 🙂

FYI the manuals for these state to NOT grease the steering shaft gears as that will attract dirt and make things worse.
@MrV2u

Yeah I’ve been told that. I always greased my tractors and never had issue. Maybe I should have used a dry lube to prevent the risk of sticking. Thanks for the heads up brother.
@jbg653

Per Cub Cadet you should not lubricate the steering gears. From the manual: NOTE: It is not necessary to grease the steering pinion/sector gear interface. Doing so will allow dirt to accumulate and can affect steering performance.
@MrV2u
@MrV2u 3 ай бұрын
You are correct sir. Thanks for the info. I’m old school and lube everything. I cleaned it off and used a dry lube on it which wouldn’t attract dirt.

Thank you. I use dry silicon to not attract dirt, but I did miss couple of points that you showed in your video. That was very helpful. How often do you usually grease the mower? Is once a season good enough?
@MrV2u
@MrV2u 3 ай бұрын
Yeah I’m old school I live everything up. Next time I’d go with the dry lube as well. I usually grease in the begging of the season and check midway through.

Many of these spindles have sealed bearings. Greasing them will do nothing but maybe damage the seals and dirt will destroy the bearings.

I've seen at least one commentator mention that the steering linkage gears should be run dry (no grease).
@MrV2u
@MrV2u Жыл бұрын
It’s not going to hurt anything. I like everything to be lubed up to prevent rust and seizing when it comes time to removing things. I believe they say that so dirt doesn’t stick to it. Thanks for the info brother.
@ainttakenanyshit
@ainttakenanyshit 10 ай бұрын
Yup. DRY steering gears may get dirty, BUT, the grime will not have any substance to mix/stick with. Grease + dirt on steering gears = grinding paste = worn out gears ;-(

Here's one. i bought the fast attach blade. The spring loaded collar doesn't retract far enough for the pins on the collar to clear the blade to remove it. Even at its best it requires a hammer to hit the blade to remove it. It's worse to put the blades back on. I'm afraid I have to take off the deck and remove the collar assembly to see what's preventing me from pushing it up far enough. Can you do a video on what it will to clear the assembly?
@MrV2u
@MrV2u 3 ай бұрын
Most likely you have the wrong blades or there is a restriction above the collar. Try to stick with the original blades by having them sharpened at a local repair shop.
@steelcross839
@steelcross839 3 ай бұрын
@@MrV2u Thx. These were the original blades and they were sharpened by the dealer. FYI although it doesnt solve the problem, I found that waiting a couple of days, whatever is up there dried out and compacted by hitting the collar with a hammer so I was able to get them off leveraging a flathead screwdriver. Needed the hammer to raise the collar up far enough to put the blades back on. I'm going to take the entire thing to the dealer this winter and have him clean the collar out. He may have faced this problem before and has some suggestions.
