Brandy Some Paper Trimmers with the slot for a blade to slide. The Space of the Slot is 1/4" If it is, you can test your envelope by sliding it through the slot. If is goes through easily it is less than a quarter inch.

I was about to share this same tip! During the height of the pandemic I mailed up to 10 cards per day and used my SU trimmer guide to measure the thickness. Over 500 cards, not a single one returned!

I put my cards in the mailbox for pick up and have found it helps to put a sticky note on cards I send with a NON Machinable Stamp.... for the Mail Person to "HOLD IT OUT for NON Machinable Mail". Otherwise, I have found they lump it all together and some of my mail was getting messed up. For some reason, some of my NON Machinable cards were being run thru machines....and paying extra for those stamps...It was upsetting. I found putting a note on them have helped a lot. I don't know if anyone else has had that problem, but the note idea has helped.

I thought it was great information about how to protect your card. I would think though that if you turn your card inside out that the back of your card would have the indentations on it.. If you don’t have an extra piece of card stock on the inside, then that would show through definitely

Good to keep for a reference in case I forget so thank you. I use a piece of card stock embossed with the Tufted Embossing Folder if I have gems. A piece embossed with Petal Burst or Hexagons embossing folder would probably work as well. Also, do note that if you use chipboard, your envelope needs to be flexible as it goes through the post office machine and cannot be rigid in which case different postage would be needed.

This is a great video for beginners. I have a postal scale to make sure I don't go over one once. Most of my cards have a lot of dimension so I had a stamp made that says "Non-machinable, Please Hand Stamp". I have heard from others that even if you use the "butterfly" stamp they sometimes still get put through the postal machine. I spend a lot of time on my cards and I want them to arrive in the same condition I sent them. I really like the idea of turning your cards inside out. .

Very helpful. I usually just use 2 stamps when my card is too thick. I could save a bit of money with the non-machinable stamp, but that is just another stamp I have to purchase and keep track of. I guess I am a bit lazy in that regard. I often use a larger envelope and place a piece of thin paper to protect the card and keep the envelope flat. I have received a card turned inside out, but then it wouldn't display well. Not sure how to make it stand up after it has been through the machines the wrong way. But it did save the sender money. Thanks for the tips! Thank you Amanda for researching. I have a template from the USPS that I use to make sure my card is thin enough to mail. I slide my card through the slot and if it will not slide on it's own, it needs more postage. So helpful!

I really appreciate finding out about the different mailing options Brandy. I never knew you could buy stamps on line. I live in Canada so I don't know if the size is the same for the smallest and largest envelope or if this is universal? I'll surely ask for sure. I never knew I could buy stamps on line or that there is stamps that are forever stamps. I know I will refer to your video often. Thanks for doing this. 💕

One more question: On the larger envelope, it's a forever stamp, plus .20 more and then the additional butterfly stamp?
@brandyscards
@brandyscards 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Denise, Thanks for stopping by!! I'm so glad you found it helpful. Sure, the Forever Stamp is $.58 and the Butterfly Stamp is $.88 so it's the additional $.30 needed for a Non-Machinable. If your card is over 1oz it's an additional $.20. Keeping in mind this could change as prices change. Lol!! Hope that helps! Hugs, Brandy

Thanks for this information. I already knew most of it, but I thought that an extra ounce stamp was the same value as the difference between the first class stamp and the non-machinable stamp. I mailed a square card to my grandson, and I put one first class stamp and two extra ounce stamps (one for being 1.1 ounces, and one for being square). It probably needed an extra 10 cents. I just texted my daughter to check if she had to pay extra postage.
