In this tutorial, I have explained the process behind creating a 3d floor plan model in Blender 2.81
This was a freelance project that I did for the client and got permission to share it with you!
Project: One bedroom apartment with all kinds of facilities. Source files: Plan and some reference images.
I have used libre cad for converting dwg drawings. Libre cad is free software and it is suitable for small projects. But, You can't use it for large size files. (dwg file greater than 600kb in my PC)

Would love for an updated version please. Because maybe back then boolean didn't work as it does today , and maybe we could use Append to bring assets but even then there's the new asset collection library . There's also the new Caustics that will allow for realistic light reflections through objects . But other than that , this is probably the best tutorial out there on how to work with a floor plan for showing interior . Unfortunately it won't help that much with creating an exterior render but it's great anyways

I didn't realize the archimesh objects bound boxes were meant for cutting holes. So convenient. Use Ctrl + - with the boolean addon activated

My metric system from Autocad doesn't suit that one from Blender. When I imported DXF it looks as if it was gigantic... I've been trying to change "metrics" in "scene" but it doesn't work.

Why not put the 2d plan as background on a plane and put 3d cursor in a corner of a wall and use archimesh from the start to build everything ?

I use libreCAD just to remove texts, layers and furniture layouts. LlibreCAD is not a user-friendly software to make 2d floor plan. I use AutoCAD for 2d floor plans and there are lot of CAD tutorial available here on KZbin. Thanks for watching!

Just a random question... why did you use a plane for the walls instead of using archi-mesh walls? They also have an automatic floor if you want to add it.

Good information, thanks for sharing! But, when I get dxf/dwg file from clients, most of the time there will be ton of issues(double lines, multiple layers, lot of break points, missing parts, etc). Instead of solving all those issues, I prefer making walls using planes and use dxf curves to snap vertices. NB: Alternatively, Archipack or Archimesh adons can be used for making walls. But, in that case I'll not be able to cut walls in different positions (sill level, door height, etc). I like to modify walls to show the furniture inside the house in renders.

Hello Ravi Vaghasiya, It's a tough task for me, because most of the work that I'm getting is either direct or recommended by friends. I tried online platforms like freelancer, fiverr, etc. and non of them works for me. But, from my experience following things worked: Make some good artworks and upload to facebook groups, artstation, sketchfab, cgtrader, instagram etc. If people are interested in your works, they will contact you via email, messenger or whatsapp. Upload frequently, get feedback and improve. Learn to say no to things that you are not comfortable with. You will be getting job offers, business offers and complex project proposals etc.. but accept offers you can accomplish at that moment.

Thanks for watching! Here I am using a floor plan which is made of beziercurve (end result from autocad dxf addon). Now by using vertex snap mode, I can snap an object to corner of the beziercurve (floor plan)

Blender can import .dxf, .obj or .dae files. I think, there is no need to use librecad, you can export the plan in .dea or .dxf format from Chief architect(cleanup the plan in chief architect itself) and import it in blender. Thanks for watching!

Hello Egneva. Is it possible to make a section cut trough say, floor level one at 1.2 meter high and save section cut separate item to export as pdf.

There is no section view (Revit like) function in blender. But it is possible to make (not accurate) section view using Boolean or 'Alt+b'. Boolean: Create a large cube place at 1.2 m, assign boolean modifier to the floor(object), choose the cube to use for boolean operation and hide visibility (object properties- uncheck Show in render and change display as bounds). Also you can use Bool Tool addon to achieve the same. Alt+b: go to orthographic front view(numpad 1), use measure tool to mark 1.2 m, Press Alt+b and select the whole bottom area upto 1.2 m. Now you will be able to see section view of the floor level and make renders using viewport render option (View> Viewport render image). Disadvantages (alt+b): It will work only in solid view and some times hard to mark required regions. I7 Laptop with 8gb ram and gtx 950m graphics card. Don't worry about pc specs. Try to make 3d model with minimum number of polygons. Keep assets in separate blend files and link them as collections. Avoid using high resolution hdri and PBR textures. Most of the time, diffuse map alone 'll be enough to make good materials. Try to use procedural textures as much as possible. Thanks for watching!

Good tutorial! When I import dxf drawings sometimes I just select the lines of the walls and go to object->convert to->mesh from curve. By doing this it is then possible to extrude directly all the lines of the walls in 1 second, saving a lot of time

I do that too, but always check if your vertices are merged by select all and merrge by distance..increase the distance if necessary, bcs sometimes it doesn´t merge

Is a really great tutorial. I've learned a few tricks. However using Archipack, the paid version, generate the walls,doors, windows, floors and balcony in about 50 clicks. Adding furnitures also can be faster with some addons. I don't take credit for Archipack and I don't want to leave a bad vibe about this tutorial. It's always a pleasure to see someone who make projects in a raw, pure Blender mode. That takes skill. Big like!
