Who says an older guy like myself can’t learn from a young buck such as yourself. I have the tendency to be to willing to work for less than what I should. Your being willing to say I am not going to cut that grass for less than what you should be getting because of it being so overgrown is a lesson for me. Thanks for the video!

It takes significant rain and moisture to make a lawn unmowable, even with a large commercial rider; you just have to be careful with your turns ( as you should be any day, because they can tear up when it's dry ), where you shoot clippings, try not to mash grass into the concrete. Oh, and clean the deck and grease the spindles if they're greasable, because it does get messy. I wouldn't recommend mowing _while_ it's raining ( though I've done it way to often over the years ), but after it's passed, go for it. If you're not sure, walk the property first.

When you show up to do a standard weekly lawn cut and realize it’s a mess you can prevent this from happening in the first place. By asking questions like “when was the last time that it was mowed”? “Is the lawn in good shape” these are questions I learned from Jonathan’s videos on Florida Turf Pro’s. If you find out the lawn isn’t a maintenance ready lawn, that it’s in fact a mess it then falls under the category of a “cleanup” or yard cleanup where it then requires substantial edging, mowing with double cuts and even in some extreme cases brush clearing or using a trimmer to knock it down. So you can advise the customer ahead of time to minimize the “sticker shock” when you show up. I learned this the hard way multiple times in a row I made the mistake my first year of showing up to mow a yard and quickly realizing it was actually a hayfield. I get excited and get it done as part of a cleanup instead of standard cut if the customer excepts the quote. But if you already quoted them you may have to eat it like I had to until o learned to factor in cleanup pricing. Those properties make for the best before/after photo’s and highest profit on a cut. Sadly most of the times it ends up being a one and done deal where they let it grow back and don’t want a service provider there every week but I still like doing big cleanups. I earned $150 or more on some of them.
