Thank you - you probably saved me a good hour's worth of work trying to frame and build a bunch of robbing screens for my nucs

Perfect! No need to make things more difficult than necessary. Made one and installed it in 15 min. That included a walk to the shed and a short hike to the hives. Thanks for posting.

Another good info video, Joe, especially reminding everyone to install it in the evenings.

Just what I need. Made few splits yesterday with frame of honey and had very small entrance ( big enough for a bee to squeeze in) and went to check on them this morning and they got robbed. All honey is gone. Got entrance completely blocked off with mesh for now and on my way to building few of these entrances. Thank you.

its hard to hold the bees with just honey this late in the season.

Little Bits Honey Bees joe may. I’m new Beek and didn’t know that. Talked to my friend beek and he told me that the only way to stop robbing is to feed them syrup. I got all syrup mixed and going to start feeding tomorrow. BTW I did build similar entrances and it didn’t stop the robbers since they were so desperate to get more honey.

Little Bits Honey Bees joe may. I’m in Florida so we should get another flow in few months

If you open feed syrup it need to be at least 100 ft away form your hives. If they are robbing a weak hive about the only way to same it is move it to another location and put a robbing screen on it after dark. If it has a lot of bees you might stop it with a robbing screen.

I found temporary solution. The screens didn’t help but I found a video where a beek simply used empty marker shell and stick it in the entrance and rest closed with mesh. The rober finds its way in but can’t get out so it stays with this colony. So far after I installed those tubes I’ve seen very little activity. Thank you for your response.

Thank you Joe for taking the time to help others !!! If I am using a landing board do you have any tricks to remove the dead bee's that may pile up at the entrance without having to remove the hardware cloth?

Sorry I do not

Those are a great idea, now the thieves won't be able to get the flat screen TV out and around that tight turn .

I was thinking about the times I've had finding my robbing screen and my staple gun and installing it in the middle of a full-on robbing scenario, I am always concerned about losing the foragers who didn't have the benefit of learning the new entrance location. I wonder if, when the flow is over and I begin to feed, that maybe I should put the screens on before robing begins and simply leave them on till the beginning of winter. What do you think?

I have not used robbing screens for a long time I got rid of Italian bees the robbing went away. But it won't hurt any thing as long as they have good ventilation.

Great idea! Thank you! Do you find your #8 local or order? I would like a good place to get it. Ordered a roll from local store and it came in all stretched and misshaped. I refused it. Thanks Joe for all your gifts of knowledge!
@privatebubba88766 жыл бұрын
You will be hard pressed to find pristine #8 hardware cloth because the small rolls are made from larger rolls than are rolled by a machine which stretch and deform the screen somewhat Most rolls are wide enough that you can cut out the small imperfection and not even notice the difference because your projects won't require using the full width or length.

if you used smaller wire would it help keep out SHB ?
@LittleBitsHoneyBeesjoemay2 жыл бұрын
it would defiantly help
@michaelodds20073 ай бұрын
That would only take robbers a very short time to figure that out and enter the hive.

I tried this and I waited until the night time to put it on even and the bees would leave no problem but then they couldn't get back in. It's so disheartening to come back in the afternoon and there's like a hundred bees with pollen on their legs but they can't get in. Looks like I'm gonna have to make a proper screen. The only thing I think I did wrong is that I might have made mine too tall. It's about 6 inches tall
