I quite literally just got started on making a 2D turn-based JRPG in Godot. And this video made starting so much more clear. Looking forwards to following along!

Hey man, before I get started, is this based on Heartbeasts RPG tutorial or is this your own thing? I'll be using Godot 4, but I've already gone through his, and it was great, but still left me with some questions, and I'm hoping this is a different approach

Hello, this is my own thing. Which Heartbeast RPG series are you referring to? I can give it a quick look and let you know how these might compare/contrast. Anything specific his series didn’t cover that you need?

@@TampopoInteractive His one was a paid one (about 40 hours long I think). I got it on sale, and it was worth it. But it was mainly a single character doing combat with one other single character (amongst all the other JRPG stuff). I did end up making my own system, and it worked, but then I got sidetracked with actual work so I never completed it, and there were some bugs that would freeze the game occasionally that I couldn't reliably replicate, so I just put it on hold. You can see the progress I made in my devlog (and it freezes in the devlog lol). kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoupaKiGl81kn6c I'll go through yours, and it might give me a different perspective and ideas on how to create a JRPG battle system.

do you have these shaders at the end of the video posted anywhere?
@dungeoncorporation7 күн бұрын
Tried to build my own shader but for some reason my highlight_alt plays on the whole row instead of highlighting just one 😅
@TampopoInteractive6 күн бұрын
Sorry, I think I glossed over this. Two things can cause this that I know of. One, check out the Resource tab on the shader material and make sure local to scene is true. This will make the shader unique to each instance it is on. If that does not work, keep that shader setting, delete all of the enemies from the Battle scene, and manually drag them into the scene from the FileSystem in the bottom left.

I made a quick (3 minute) video that should cover this. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hV6mfKKMbb99qtUsi=hHj-zs6ySW6rUKOq

@@TampopoInteractive thank you for these. There are a few times in your video that you use custom functions from your utility autoload kit, such as Math, Util, etc to handle some sorting stuff. Are those posted anywhere? I just wound up typing out the alternate methods you provided for a moment and made them local

@dungeoncorporation You are welcome, and sorry, yes, this was an oversight on my part. I will share the scripts when I am at my computer next.

Are you going to get into creating spells and using items?
@TampopoInteractive4 күн бұрын
Absolutely. I have a lot of that already recorded but not uploaded yet. Items, shops, inventories, and main menus are all coming up soon. I will be doing magic after that.
