"You'll know you have enough gold on it when it looks like you have enough gold on it" is a perfect way to describe it.

So I’m curious what would happen if you didn’t paint it black first but left it the color of the filament?
@FilamentsFolly3 жыл бұрын
You would not get that darker color it would be more yellowish white if you had used white filament. But if you used black i would look very close to this.

Can you use this same technique to get a gunmetal type finish on a 3D print as well?
@tayrex4243 ай бұрын
I would assume

Will the rub and buff stay without spaying the base coat? I have a few spots I need it in on a pla print that’s already the color I want

question! What is your reason for using that kind of paint? Why not acrylics?

At .12, what is printing speed set to? It has to take several days to print!

I think I did 40 mm, it took about 36 hours for me on fdm

How durable is this after it dries? Does it flake or rub off?
@FilamentsFolly2 жыл бұрын
Use a gloss spray varnish over it when you're done. Any hardware store should have it

It looks amazing!. But the list of warnings on that rub&buff starts lite with skin irritation and goes all dark with organ failure :/
@FilamentsFolly3 жыл бұрын
I guess I should have read that. But in all fairness a lot of paints have warning labels like that.
@s0nofanarchy733 жыл бұрын
You do realise that they have to account for the worst case scenario... there are no documented cases of organ faillure due to rubb 'n buff lol

They intentionally keep the disclaimer as dangerous as applicable for legal purposes. Just so they can claim legal indemnity if someone tries to sue them.

@@FilamentsFolly nice thank you for the quick response! I was like why does that look sooo smooth lol
@FilamentsFolly3 жыл бұрын
@@xdjnoclux You can get these smooth if you use resin as a coating and leave it out in the sun but you will lose some detail. that is what i did for the Bulbasaur

What filament did you use? Does the spray paint just stick to the plastic or is it a primer black?

I used sunlu white and gloss black (rust oleumI think), no primer

@@FilamentsFolly what settings though? Thingiverse says no supports but that can't possibly be right with those arms & chin sticking out?

@@MassisPipes oops i need to fix that. I printed him with normal supports, 5% zigzag. I also printed the FDM one at .12 layer height
