Hello potters, how are you today? In today's video we will be learning about some of the things you can do with an enclosed form. You can do a bunch of things with enclosed forms but in today's video I will be showing you how to make a bird house out of clay.
It's pretty easy once you know how to throw an enclosed form; if you have not learned how to do that i suggest you watch this video first.

Please remember this is only one way to do it, there are many ways, this is just the easiest for me. Also remember when making the bird house to make auxiliary holes for heat. it gets real hot in the summer.

Yes although I would heavily suggest you keep up with my website as most of my work is sold there and it usually sells out within a week or two. I technically never stop telling stuff, I think lots of people just don't know about the website cuz I don't push it in your faces all the time 😂

Nice, but on behalf of the potential residents I am compelled to suggest a couple of improvements to the functional aspect of the design to consider. First, the hole for the perch stick isn't necessary and could even leave the nest vulnerable to predators. 2nd, the vent holes work better if they can be angled upward to minimize water dripping into the nest area. 3rd, a 1/4"-3 /8" drain hole in the center of the bottom helps with any water that might get into the house. And you are absolutely right, the residents don't seem to care the least for the looks of the final product, as I can attest to right outside of my living room window... the result of a bad firing... I need a hug..... Thank you.

Thank you bird expert 🤣 I don't study birds or anything but I have a couple of these myself and the birds do fine as long as you place the nests under a tree or in a shady spot underneath your patio. I love your suggestions by the way .

This is so cool! Definitely adding it to my list of things to make. Do you think it would need a little stand if I wanted to turn it into a bird feeder? Do birds even like ceramic stands 😂🤔 Please let us know if you test this out and get bird families 😂
@EarthNationCeramics

Oh yes, I have a couple of these already and they work fine. The only improvement that I would add is to make a few holes at the bottom for drainage and for air flow when it gets a little hot outside. If the birds find the nest too hot they will just leave. But as long as you place them underneath a tree or a patio ( the places where you would put a birdhouse anyway) they like to live in them for protection

would this be too hot? lol I don't know much about birds, but we've put a ton of feeders out in the lawn so I think a little house would be nice
@EarthNationCeramics

Sometimes it gets a little hot and in those cases you can just make it way bigger and put my holes in them at the bottom. Keep in mind. If a bird thinks the house is too hot it'll just not live in there. You should also be putting these bird houses underneath the shade of a tree or a porch of some sort. Please don't leave them out in the sun ( I wouldn't even do that with a normal birdhouse)

If you place a ceramic birdhouse where the sun will EVER be on it, you’ll cook the birds. Love it when videos don’t add music.

Would the bird houses/feeders really get that hot with the large opening and vent holes? I just assumed clay would stay cool in the summer, like an adobe or cobb house. Great video, I can't wait to make one!

I have never seen bird houses with openings that big. 😳 What kind of birds are you housing? I’m over here living with sparrows and finches, with some robins and blue jays thrown in.

These are beautiful, but I can’t get access to a wheel, and likely won’t be using a wheel for a while, because A) university term begins again in September, and B) I’ll likely be getting surgery by then. BUT. Technically they are bowls. And I have a project to make 100 handmade bowls. I don’t see why these couldn’t count? They’re just….vertical bowls.
