Oh my gosh! I knew there had to be a better way than I've seen. Kept trying to think of a way to do this with power tools vs. xacto knife. Thank you! Well done.

Kyle, yes there are other methods of cutting but I have not tried them. Unless you have a blade that is supported from above AND below you may experience "flex" and the sides of the cutout may not be consistent.

Amazing stuff. Great video. Thanks for sharing! :) Have you tried using a jigsaw instead? DO you think that might work?

Could you use a hole saw bit to do this instead? I don’t have a scroll saw.

The top backer board has 14 brad nails in it and the back one has 10. How do you get the backer boards off without messing op the pages?

What are your thoughts on someone using an electric nail gun as opposed to the pneumatic?
@RefinedPallet11 жыл бұрын
Never tried that, but I don't see why it would not work.

RefinedPallet Cool. The books on your etsy are marvelous by the way. How do you find such good books to hollow?
@RefinedPallet11 жыл бұрын
A lot are used from various sources. But the leather bound books I do need to purchase new to secure.

Could you do this with a band saw?
@RefinedPallet10 жыл бұрын
Not with the same results. A band saw would definitely cut much faster, however the cut would need to start from outside of the book. You can't thread a closed loop band saw blade through a drilled starting hole. With a cut starting from outside the book you would need to find a way to reinforce, fill and hide the starting cut.

Thanks for the response. I guess I'll be doing it by hand!

hey i bought a scroll saw and am trying your book safe project but when I try to cut through pages it barely cuts. it cuts so little it would take hours to finish. I bought a blade like your using , I just don't know what im doing wrong , please help me
@RefinedPallet10 жыл бұрын
Not sure what is going on with your process. I stick with a 7tpi hook blade. I can get through a typical 1.5" book in about 5 minutes or less. I can usually get 2-3 books per blade before they break.
