You can usually find these type of 55 gallon barrels on Craigslist or Marketplace. You can never have too many cutting blades: amzn.to/33QizBX

Burn barrels are very useful for shrub and tree trimmings. We burn our brush in one. We dump it after each burn though so ours last forever pretty much.

Yeah, if I was just burning brush in mine I probably would dump them too. We burn all kinds of trash in them so I usually just load them up once they fill up and get rid of them.

In the center of the lid, take a hammer and give it a good even blow for a low spot dead center. Take a half inch drill bit or other or other size, and you have an instant drain hole. It will drain through the top into the bottom and out them drain holes. You should have lid vent holes.

Awesome video. I know the options are endless but what if you hammered those tabs inward on the lid instead of outward? Would that work about the same and have less sharp edges on the outside?

I've been using 50 gallon drums for burn barrels for more than 60 years. What is the nonsense in attempting to make the process appear to be technical. Cut, drill, chisel holes into the side and a few on the bottom. Add a grill toward the bottom if so inclined. Toss in some firewood, some kindling, kerosene/gas/lighter fluid--strike a match. Done.

Well, yes. But some have never done that. Some people are grown and don't know what a lug nut is. I was asked about it, so why not? Anytime those that do know can help those that don't, ...

Why is a guy in the comments youtubing how to work a burn barrel if he’s been doing it correctly for 60 years?
@tb-xy7lg
@tb-xy7lg 2 күн бұрын
If you have been doing it for 60 years, at minimum you are 75 years old. That means you started using burn barrels when you were 15. But anyways, what was so technical about this ? I guess for someone your age this is very technical. I'm honestly surprised you could figure out how to post a comment on the world wide web. You probably still use those free AOL CDs to get on the interwebs with your phone line dial up connection. Unfortunately, you probably have no idea how to see comment replies, so I will never hear from you.

Great video. I want to make one now. I found a lot for sale on Craigslist, but not any for free. Is $10 normal for one of these?
@SeidelRanch
@SeidelRanch 2 жыл бұрын
I would say $10 was normal for these type of barrels, but lately everything has went way up in price. Thanks Joe. If you find some for $10 now that's probably a great price.

Before you do this, make damn sure the old contents of the drum were not flammable. Vapors can be just as explosive as the former contents, and guys have gotten killed cutting into "empty" drums that exploded. I was just reading about a guy in Pennsylvania who got killed by a burn barrel last week. And I know of another incident in Iowa that killed a man who was welding on top of a barrel, using it as a workbench. Filling the drum with water before cutting into it can displace explosive vapors, if done correctly.
@SeidelRanch
@SeidelRanch 10 ай бұрын
We have just always filled them with water if we think they are flammable or explosive. Some also shoot holes in them before cutting them. Maybe do both just to be sure.

@SeidelRanch
@SeidelRanch 2 жыл бұрын
I would think you would be ok, but do it at your own risk. Oil takes a lot to burn and it's not explosive. Gas or something explosive though would be very bad.

Why can't you put it on its side with opening on top fill it full of water till water comes out. That would cut down the sound.
